Sweater Dress and Wool Coat

J.Crew's Extra 40% Off (Some items are 50% off) sale (code BIG40) will go on till Feb 25th - that's tomorrow! If you are looking for winter coats and jackets, this is a good opportunity to pull out your wallet. Sizes are limited, yes, but pop-ups are aplenty in the early hours of the east coat time. If you don't know that already, that's when J.Crew and J.Crew Factory online stores update their inventory.  So if you are looking for a certain size, it doesn't hurt to check in the morning.

The coat I'm wearing in this post was last year's version of the Double-Cloth Metro Coat with Thinsulate. It's very warm and heavy. I haven't tried on this year's version, but I suspect that they would be comparable. I don't like the placement of the pockets. It's a bit too high and I prefer vertical ones on Double-Cloth Lady Day Coat. In general I prefer the design of the lady day coat better.

Ann Taylor Jeweled sweater dress (no longer available)
J.Crew double-cloth metro coat with Thinsulate (buy here, extra 40% off w/ BIG40)
Chanel m/l flap (from bbos, invite here)

Miu Miu pumps (old, slingback version here

Sale Alert: Loft Flash Sale 40% Off Select Full-Price Items

Ends Monday 10am ET. Code SHOPNOW. All other regular items 30% off.

My picks:
Textured Open Stitch Sweater (Love love love this sweater. Want one in each color!!!)
Cotton Modal v-neck Cardigan in Spring Mint (I'm in minty mood these days. :))
Night Star Print Sweater (Very soft material, super comfy)

Look I Love: Lace, White, Tan

Flipping through catalogs recently, I was really drawn to this clean look. The color is simple - white and tan. The textures are what makes this outfit visually interesting. I love the lace pullover. And how cool is that coat, with lace hem!
The coat has 3/4 sleeves, which I think will make it petite friendly. Price is also reasonable. Buy here.
Embroidered Lace Pullover, here.
Layered Chiffon Tank, here.
Pleated Wide Leg Pants, here. Now these pants are a challenge for petites. I think a straight or cropped version like these by Ann Taylor would be more proportional for us shorties.
Now she only needs this bag to go with the outfit. :)
Notes: After I posted it, I realized how close this color combo was with my outfit in the last post. It was purely a coincidence. I guess I have been loving clean whites recently. :)

Happy weekend, everyone! I hope you had a wonderful week and have enjoyable weekend plans. Past week has been a weird week for me.  As you might have known from the news, the tech industry is going through a series of work force reductions.  Our company was no exception. I have seen the widest spread actions in my company in my career last week. Needless to say, people were in panic mode. Some site action has already been taken and people were let go. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop ... any day now.
Ironically, with this company wide uncertainty going on, my work has been crazily busy. Not sure how that could happen.  Because of my lack of time, my blog post has been very sparse, and I could barely keep up with reading my favorite blogs. What that means fortunately was that I had no problem curbing my spending in the past couple of months. I barely purchased anything online, because I know I would have no time to go to the mall for returns.  This does help me focus on using existing wardrobe items to come up with new pairings.
Today's outfit is focused on layering similar color-schemed neutrals in various shades. It might not be as exciting as bright colors, but I love it for its simplicity and pleasing effect.
White and Warren Cashmere Cardigan (old, similar here, other options here)
Silk Scarf from TJMaxx (old, Cashmere scarf in taupe 40% off here, similar options in 68 colors here)
Gap leggings (old)
Phillip Lim Pashli Mini (buy here
J.Crew tissue turtleneck tee (old, this year's version here)
Skagen watch (similar here)
David Yurman bracelet (buy here)
Chanel Sunnies (bbos, invite here)
STEVEN by Steve Madden Bolerro boots (last worn here)

The snow storm came on Wednesday and dumped about 10 inches of snow in the area. Even though snow can be inconvenient and dangerous, I look forward to it every time.  Because after the snow, when the sun comes out, and the road is cleared, you have for yourself the best looking scenery.
maybe not so good of an idea to stick my foot in
Have a wonderful weekend!

Skier Sweater and Oversized Tweed Coat

Happy Lunar New Year! Since the U.S. doesn't consider Lunar new year a public holiday, kids didn't take Friday off and of course I had to work on that day too. However, we did make an effort to celebrate by having home made hot pot for dinner on Friday and made dumplings Saturday night. Every year I made an effort to watch CCTV's Chinese Spring Festival Gala which usually runs for at least 5 hours, with various different shows like singing, dancing, magic, skits, acrobats, and others. I did that not because I liked the shows that much, but because this was one of the few things that made me feel like I was part of the celebration. I was also a tradition that was held up since I was a teenager. The shows get more and more political every year, however I still go to it every year. Is there a tradition that you have at home for celebrating Lunar New Year?

This winter has been extremely cold. It led to some cold weather appropriate purchases. Among those are the J.Crew Wintress Puffer in black (I took the size pxs for extra thick sweaters underneath), Cashmere-lined Smartphone Leather Gloves (size small, fits small, but fingers are long), and the Skier Sweater. I was so grateful that I found the Puffer Coat because it really was a savior in frigid days when I had to walk outside without a hat. The hood was warm and the pockets were lined with fleece. I spotted the boy's version at a J.Crew store since then on sale for $42 and got one for my boy. He is now wearing that everyday and told me it was the best jacket he had, EVER. :)

The Skier Sweater was also a store find at $42 at the beginning of this year. Size xxs fits me very well, and I was so happy that after I put it in the washer (hand wash cycle) it came out just fine. Maybe it shrank a tad bit and I love it now even more for its fitted look.

The coat was an purchase at least 3 years ago from Theory Outlet. I love the men's wear look and the material is very nice. It fits big on me and that's why I haven't been giving it much of attention. After seeing that the oversized coats are all over this year, I decided to take it out for a spin. Jasmine tried it on and said she felt like Sherlock. :)
