January Picks of the Month

I want to do a quick post of some of my new purchases this month that I really love and recommend.

Jcrew Factory Classic Crewneck Cardigan in Chartreuse, size xxs. Great fit and color. The color in real life is less lemony and more mustardy. on sale for $12. I love the fit so much that I picked up a couple of more colors for spring - bright azalea and extravagant green.

Cambridge Cable Turtleneck Sweater in Antique White (size xxs) Similar here. I love the chunky sweater. It doesn't look too bulky. The length and the fit is great. It's very warm, so for me who runs a bit warmer than normal can only wear it in the middle of winter. The fabric is a bit scratchy, but not too much. I was wearing a tissue turtle neck underneath so no problem at all.

Loft Julie Ankle Pants in Tile Print Doubleweave Cotton (size 00P)
I mentioned these pants in this post, Great fit.

I "borrowed" the Celine mini luggage tote from Bag Borrow and Steal and LOVE it. I've been wearing it to work everyday and taking it to the mall for shopping trips too. The bag itself is on the heavy side, if you are not used to it. I weighed it just for curiosity - net 2.5 pounds!  Here's the Celine mini against my Philip Lim Pashli mini (worn here). They are cute in their own ways, right? Here's the invite to BBOS.

Petite Schoolboy Blazer in Velvet (size P00, in Navy). This is by far my favorite purchase this month. Love love love the color and the fit. Can't take it off!
Boy Shirt in Grey Tartan (size 00, heather grey red), no longer available, similar here, f21 version here, old navy here.

I can't find this forever 21 blazer online, but found a very similar longer version here for $14.99 (half off). It's a good blush colored blazer for spring and summer.
J.Crew factory polka-dot popover in xxs.

I've been acquiring polka dots left and right recently, and you can see in this post. The blue one is from the regular jcrew store (not factory), and the quality of the two popovers are very similar. The factory one actually doesn't wrinkle as much.
Madewell cropped lace blazer in size 2. Lace and blazer, for $30, I was sold instantly. I got this in store and couldn't find a size 0, and the size 2 fits me decent, for a casual loose fitting look.

Another favorite Madewell find this month is this spotted snowfall sweater in camel. I was eyeing this sweater for a long time and couldn't believe my eyes when I found it on sale for half off in store with size xs left. I picked it up without any hesitation. Very soft and cozy.

Ok, that's all for today. I want to close by sharing this Instagram Tay posted the other day. I was roaring with laughter. This is how I scored a number of J.Crew sold out pieces. Anyone else?

HOW TO: Get Rid of White Patches on Hunter Boots

Hi everyone. Today I want to share some tips on how I cleaned the white patches off of my Hunter rain boots.  I am by no means an expert, since I just acquired my first pair of Hunter a week ago. I stopped by my local Nordstrom Rack last weekend and found a pair of Hunter Crest Wedge Rain Boots in my size for only $49.97.  These boots are still full price at Nemain Marcus for $175.  I saw Jean's post over a month ago about these boots, but didn't get a chance to go until last week. I didn't think I'd need a pair of rain boots, since I don't commute.  When I saw these boots and tried them on, I changed my mind. The wedge was very comfortable and the idea of being able to walk in the snow and rain without having to worry about my shoes convinced me to take them home to think about.  One other thing I noticed was that the boots were "dirty". There was a layer of white patches all over the boots, almost looking like the boots have been to a construction site - but the "dust" doesn't wipe off.  I picked up the phone and consulted Jean. She assured me that this was natural and all Hunter boots do that. There are ways to get them off.  I figured since they were not final sale, I could take them home and try to clean them. If they don't clean I have a choice to return.
Original state of the boot in the store
Some of you who follow me on Instagram or Twitter might remember my adventure last weekend to try to get these boots to a better state.  The left foot has already been cleaned by soapy water the night before, but still has patches only not so noticeable.  The right foot is in its original state.
I simply got a soft cloth (something that you don't mind throwing out after use), dab some olive oil with it and rub the boots in a circular motion. I used olive oil liberally, and the white patches disappeared like magic. The whole process took less than 10 minutes.  Here's what it looked like afterwards. I wiped the excess olive oil off with a dry cloth.

After it was completely dry, I found the boot that I cleaned with soapy water the night before looked better than the one that was only rubbed with olive oil. So the lesson is - first clean it with warm water (add soap if desired), then rub with olive oil.  And guess what? The steps are well documented here.  Wish I found the website sooner.  Another thing I found was this note on Neiman's website under Hunter boots -

Please note: Every Hunter rubber wellington boot is made from 100% natural ingredients and small amounts of wax are included in the rubber compound during the process that is used to make each pair. When exposed to certain environmental factors, this wax can "bloom" to the surface and appear as a white powdery finish.

This is not a defect with the boots, and is completely natural. If this does happen, you can wipe this "blooming" clean with a warm, damp cloth. We recommend Hunter Boot Buffer spray which restores the finish to your Hunter Boots.

About Hunter Boot:
Hunter Boot traces its heritage back to 1856, when it introduced hardy Wellingtons for walking in Scotland's rugged, and often rainy, outdoors. Today, Hunter Boot offers a complete line of boots, clogs, and Welly socks that are ready for the modern jungle as well as the moors. The collection includes a wide range of styles for men, women, and children, and today the venerable firm even has a line of attractive (and durable) handbags and totes.

Interesting read, right?

Well, I know you are all dying to see the boots on ME! So here they are.

I was just so ecstatic to be able to stomp on wet snow and soggy grass without a care!  Now I know what I missed. :)

Stuart Weitzman 50/50 Boots

Happy Sunday everyone! Hope your weekend was as great as mine. I had a fantastic mother and daughter day yesterday with my lovely Jasmine, and had some pretty nice loot from the mall.  Jasmine got her first pair of Uggs and I took home my first pair of Hunter rain boots. We had a nice and healthy lunch at Au Bon Pain.  Dessert was a gelato from Melt.  Of course I couldn't take Jasmine out without going to Starbucks for a HUGE cup of refresher in Very Berry Hibiscus. Even in winter, these refreshers are so tasty and refreshing. :)  We came home with dinner from Sichuan Gourmet and two bags of fresh vegetables from a newly opened Chinese grocer just downstairs from the restaurant. They just opened a week ago and I am so grateful of it. Now I can get green veggies without having to drive all the way to Boston.

Today's post is about the Stuart Weitzman 50/50 boots I got a few days ago thanks to the in store Bloomies sale alert tweet from Jean. I've been looking for a pair of simple black, no bells and whistles, high heel (3-3.5 inches), tall boots for many years. Petites would understand, if you have short legs like ours, finding tall boots that fit the leg (both height and calf size) is extremely difficult. After seeing how it looks on Jean I had to give it a try. I had reservations on whether these boots will work or not, because I actually have a much bigger calf than Jean does even though we are the same height.  However due to the flexibility of the elastic material in the back, the boots actually fit me great and I'm ecstatic to find out that it's not too high (just below knee) and it's not too loose or too tight on the calf (no gap).  It feels like second skin on. Buy in store, or online here.
H&M top thanks to Jean, Ann Taylor skirt (here), JCrew Schoolboy blazer in Navy (here)
JCrew belt
3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli mini (buy here, red color here, ink color here)
Michael Kors gold watch, bracelet from Stella & Dot giveaway by AlterationsNeeded. (buy here)
The pictures I took were with bare legs to show the fit of the boots better. However I prefer tights or skinny jeans underneath.
WIth Gap Skinny jeans (this year's version here)
Loft polka dot patch pocket ribbed sleeve sweater (sold out online, try in store)
J.Crew hacking jacket in herringbone (last year's, this year's version here
With tights
Banana Republic striped button-shoulder pullover (here)
JCrew mini (similar here)
Ann Taylor skinny belt (similar here for $17.50)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Sale Alert: Banana Republic extra 40% off sale

I haven't ordered from Banana Republic for a long long time. I usually fit their factory store clothing much better. Occasionally I do browse their selections just for fun. With the extra 40% off sale items promotion (free shippings on all orders over $50), I picked out a few items to try. CODE: BRSALE40

This cardigan comes in 3 colors - black, garnet red, and cocoon. I feel that the red color is pretty but the lace is not as prominent and the effect is not as interesting as the cocoon one. Regular size comes in black with nude backings too, which is a pretty good choice if you prefer a more subdued lace effect.

Also, full price items are 25% off with code BRREFRESH
Card holders get 30% off with code NEWYEAR

A Week in Instagram: 2013 week 1

Hi everyone! Happy Friday. I wish every week is this short. :)

I want to share a few of my favorite online orders first.

When Ann Taylor ran its various different super duper attractive sales, I placed a few orders. Now they are trickling in in packages. I don't have everything in pictures, but want to show what I have so far.
Foldover Nappy Leather Clutch in Scarlet Maple - Was $98. I paid $29.75. As of this post writing, the price has gone back to $69.99. with extra 40% off (no code needed), it comes down to $42. The color is very nice, and the leather is super soft and of high quality. I recommend it 100%. See it on Jean here.

Petite Crepe Scalloped Hem Top - $88. still original price online. I got it with 50% off. I'm wearing an xxsp. The top is very pretty, of substantial weight, and very flowy. The scalloped hem is very pretty. My only gripe is that the top is Dry Clean Only and DO NOT STEAM. Fabric content is 63% polyester, 33% rayon, 4% Spandex.

Petite Classic Hatch Print Ankle pants - $88. still original price online. I got it with 50% off. I'm wearing a 00P. Nice fabric and feel. Great fit. (note, true 00P'ers, under 95lb, you will have a waist gap. Since I gained a few pounds over the holidays, these pants fit like a glove.)
I own a few PJs and my favorite was from Victoria's Secret 3-4 years ago. I noticed that I always reached for the VS set after laundry. This year I've decided to get another set to replace the worn out ones. The color of The Dreamer Flannel Pajama (on clearance now for $29.99) is a little pinker than the online photo (which seems to be true red), but I like it just the same. What I like about VS is that they have a length option for their PJs. I got "short". Surprise! The matching Dreamer Flannel Slipper is on clearance for $9.99. It's fuzzy and warm, and it is so nice to have especially for going to the bathroom at night - keep the tootsies away from the cold bathroom tile floors. I have a size 6 feet, and size S fits me perfectly. Notice that size XS is for size 3-4 feet.

Now onto some OOTD pictures.
Loft white shirt (very old)
Loft striped knit jacket (cute Ann Taylor version here)
JCrew wool mini skirt in charcoal (buy similar here)
