J.Crew Merino Tippi Sweater in Houndstooth Review

J.Crew cardmembers, in store and online, take extra 40% off fall sale items with code CARDMEMBER. All sale items here.

I have noticed that both J.Crew and Madewell have many more items on sale in store than online. I bought this sweater yesterday in store for $42 after discount, and later on noticed that the online is still full price at $98.  This sweater comes in two colors - Navy Graphite and Artichoke Green. Both are very versatile and easy to pair color combos. I love the houndstooth pattern and the unique shoulder patches. The sweater runs a bit small in my opinion, since I like my sweater a bit roomy and not too fitted. Size xxs was way too constricting for me so I sized up to xs. The sweater was made of a 12-gauge merino wool, which is nice and warm. Just in time for a cold front coming our way - tonight's low will be 24, and I will be getting up bright and early for a week long business trip to Santa Clara again.
I've been wearing my hair long and straight since college.  Last couple of years my hairdresser has been encouraging me to get a perm. I wasn't sure. So I put it off ... until last weekend I woke up thinking - why not?! So I got a haircut and a perm. I was very happy with the outcome. It's such a nice change for me and better yet, I didn't have to spend much time every morning taking care of it. Maybe the next goal is to get a highlight? (FYI, I have never put my hair through any kind of dying process before)

Fall Wrap Dress and Ferragamo Vara on Sale

Sale Alert: Salvatore Ferragamo Vara Pumps on sale at 25% off. I just ordered 3 pairs to try. Vara pumps in Rosso and black patent, and quilted Vara in Nero Nappa. I don't see Vara on sale all that often, even when they do, the sizes were all gone. I am surprised to see that most of the sizes are still available all the way down to 4.5. In some cases (black patent) C width is available. How's that!

Hi everyone! Long time no post! I have been very busy with work. More and more so with new project going on and a lot of west coast trips coming up. Half of the time will be spent outside away from home next month. So posts will be more sparse. I want to make sure that I mnntion one item that I bought a few colors of - love it so much that I decided to stock up. That is the Sloan-Fit Slim Ankle Pant. After getting the red version (worn here), I decided to purchase the black and navy also. They fit very well and have a fantastic slimming effect. Pants never looked good on me, that's why I have been avoiding them. These pants are the first pairs that I own that I love. Great for work and casual wear. I also bought the window pane version just to see. (on me here) Again, fits me nicely, but pattern is less versatile and harder to pair. I wear 00P for all of these pants. The pants are stretchy and comfy. Also these pants are labeled "dry clean" but I washed the red pair in cold water (machine delicate setting) and lay flat to dry (not dry in dryer). The red pair came out unshrunk and ready to wear off the rack (no need to iron). Some ladies in the review said they washed and dried it in the machine and it shrank, so be aware of that. Don't put it in the dryer unless your goal is to shrink it a size. Banana Republic is running a 30% off full-priced items now online with code BRFALL.

Today's outfit is an older purchase from Ann Taylor. Check Print Wrap dress a nice knit dress that is low maintenance and flattering. I like the fact that they put a very tiny snap at the cross of the wrap to keep it secure. It gives me an idea that I should do that for all my wrap dresses.

Take 2 - Geo Print Legging Jeans and Soft Sweater

10/7 update - J.Crew extra 40% off final sale with code EXTRA40. My picks:
-- Classic Schoolboy blazer in Navy (just over $100 after extra discount)
-- Merino boyfriend Sweater (Love the classic Navy color)
-- Merino Tippi Sweater (love the light sky, have camel in xxs and love)
-- Everly Suede Pumps in purple haze (saturated color suede pumps, J.Crew does it better than everyone else)
-- Silk Boy Blouse with Contrast Trim in pale seascape (so classic)
-- Schoolboy blazer in tipped wool (the vintage mahogany strikes a chord)
-- Collection Featherweight Cashmere cardigan (the standard pink is so cute)
-- Collection featherweight cashmere cardigan in windowpane check (only small sizes left, just cute)

I have been really loving these Gap Geo print jean leggings. Styling it once again for a more casual look. I removed the silk blouse from last pairing and pulled on a soft cotton v-neck sweater (found in a corner of my closet, massively wrinkled, sorry sweater!), voila, I got myself a casual monochromatic look.

Thanks to Jean's post here, I learned that Revolve Clothing gives 30% discount on new customer orders (with some brand exceptions).  I livechatted with them and got $15 refunded retrospectively on this House of Harlow leather necklace within 2 minutes. Super happy that this versatile necklace only cost $35 in the end. :)

Ann Taylor Crepe Full Skirt Dress in Nevis Green + Woodlore Shoe Trees

I want to get this quick post out there to tell you how happy I am with the Woodlore Shoe Trees I bought last weekend from Zappos. I wear size 6 shoes (sometimes 5.5) and ordered a pair of size S shoe trees from on Saturday. The shoe trees arrived Monday. Wow! I stuck them into these gorgeous pair of suede pumps (like so) that I haven't been able to wear because the toe box was just way too small and hurt me after 10 minutes of wearing. The next day I tried it on, the toe box was noticeably stretched and much more comfortable. The shoes are a bit too long on me, so sticking the whole thing in there was a mistake, because it actually made it longer as well. Fortunately, after letting them sit with only the front parts in the shoes the back parts just resting on the shoes the shoes bounced back a little. I stuck a pair of heel grips I purchased in Target store over the weekend and wore them to work today. No problem. The shoes were comfortable after a whole day. You can see how excited I was. I love the color of these pumps, but because of the fit problem they were sitting on the shelf for a long time. I'm so happy that I "fixed" the problems. If you have shoes that need broken in, or just need a little bit of help stretching out, I highly recommend these shoe trees. The natural cedar smell is also very pleasant. Sure beats plastic. I think this is well worth the investment. Shipping (both ways) is always free from So give it a try here

Boyfriend Cardigan

Banana Republic 40% off $200 purchase, 35% off $150 purchase with code BRMORE. I ordered the Sloan-Fit Slim Ankle Pant in Black and Windowpane (thanks Annie and Shira for enabling). Already own New Vermillion and love it. On me here (00P).

A quick Friday outfit post. Enjoying the cooling and yet sunny weather that we have been blessed with last week. I like wearing new clothes, but I also consciously rotate out my old clothes so they get the love they deserve. This include shoes as well. The boyfriend cardigan was an oldie (but goodie) from Loft years ago. Even though I started migrating to blazers more, I still enjoy the casualness and comfort of a cardigan. When I'm wearing form fitting pants - like this pair - I also prefer to get a longer top to cover my bums. Oh and the sandals are definitely not getting enough wears. Mental note to myself to pull them out more often.

Fall Trend: (Faux) Leather

9/29 update: Ann Taylor surprise sale. 60% off sale items. This skirt is now $33.95 with code EXTRA60.

(Faux) leather clothing pieces are all the rage this fall. When combined with the fall color - burgundy, it makes the piece all the more irresistible. There was no reason not to have it when Ann Taylor ran its 50% off sale last weekend. So here it is. Perfect in every way - Ann Taylor Riverside Colorblocked Pencil Skirt - on final sale now for $42.44. The side panels are made of stretchy material making the skirt very form fitting. The faux leather looks very nice and odorless (which is important to me, since I am super sensitive to it). Just a great piece to add to my wardrobe.

French Connection Dress and Michael Kors Selma Satchel

Update: House of Harlow Black Leather Necklace on sale for $49. I don't think I've ever seen this necklace on sale, ever. Snatched one to try. free shipping and returns.

* Please scroll down to the bottom to see the Phillip Lim for Target items for sale*

The crazy temperature fluctuation has gotten everyone in the house sick. Well, everyone but me. But I'm feeling queesy nevertheless just because I'm surrounded by sick people. This outfit was from last weekend and I was too busy to write any blog post for the whole week. I decided to get this navy Michael Kors Selma Satchel as an alternative to the Prada tote. (Figured the Prada needs to take a break once in a while). I love the quality of this bag and it looks sturdy and very functional.

Intarsia Sweater and Military Jacket

Sale alert:
- Ann Taylor 40% off all full-price tops. No code needed. here and here. My picks: Lane Striped Shirt, Silk Blouse in 5 colors,

Intarsia is a new word that I learned recently. It means decorative pattern, as in knitted garments, resembling inlay. It's all the rage this fall as you can see the designer knit pieces coming out with patterns, animals, and designs that are knitted in. As weather gets cooler, I can't wait to get out my good old meerkat sweater from Madewell last year and pair it with polka dot shorts and military jacket. Scroll down to the bottom of this post to see some of my fascinating intarsia sweater finds this season.

Fall Tweed and Boots

A quick Monday morning post to say hello. Weekend weather was perfect. A bit chilly in the morning, so I was fully equipped with fall tweeds and boots. I must have mentioned it a million times already, but I'll say it again - I love fall! I love everything about it. The cooler air, the turning color of the leaves and the ability to create layer to my outfits.  I bought this jacket a few months ago in store for a whopping $10.50 each. I am so happy that I can use it now. I love the rich brown/black/cream color of this jacket. It's still available in some sizes online with 15% off (ONEXTRA15) here. I also picked up the Goodnight Nora color too and love the dark blue color as well.
The boots are Madewell zipcode boots from last season. This season's Winston boots are very similar in looks, and softer in touch (yes, I tried it on in store). I love these boots for its versatility and comfort. The heel height is just right for me.  Madewell is running a 25% off select shoes sale and these boots are included. Price as marked. Free shipping. For all selections, here.

Geo Print Legging Jeans and Silk Blouse

Update (Friday): Found this Equipment Brett with Metal Geo Collar in black. Love the collar design. Such a great piece with 40% off.

It's almost Friday! And that means weekend is coming. I love short weeks. Makes going to work more durable. I love my work most of the time, but I do get frustrated and demotivated at times, and unfortunately I'm feeling that way now. I keep telling myself that things will get better. For the most time, it does, but it sucks when you can't see it.
I have stayed away from geo print pants for obvious reasons. It's hard to pair with. It tends to make my legs look fat and stumpy. After trying these Gap legging jeans on, I changed my mind. I think it's actually quite slimming due to its fit, and it goes so well with any solid colored camp shirt. I found these pants in store for $18.88 on final sale (orig. $75). I'm wearing a size 24 (which I think translates to 00 online).

On a separate sale note, Loft is having a flash sale again. extra 60% off till tomorrow morning. Some of them are final sales, so be careful.
Ann Taylor also loaded up on their new arrivals today and is having a 25% off full price items sale. AT/Loft card holders take extra 10% off. No code needed. My picks:
- Dusk Peplum Top (the faux leather peplum is so cute)
- quilted skirt (this one is faux leather too, very Chanelesque)
- Crepe Wrap top (beautiful colors, but doesn't come in petite sizes. :( )
- Maven Leopard Jacquard Pencil Skirt (Have it, love it, see it on me here)
- Lane Striped Shirt (so classic looking, see it on Kelly here)

Ann Taylor Maven Leopard Jacquard Pencil Skirt

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a great long Labor Day weekend. Mine was filled with Musical, food, visiting friends, board games, and some house straightening. I didn't do my usual long weekend marathon shopping because I had done enough damage this month already with this beautiful Prada tote that I just don't seem to be able to get enough of. However I did use my birthday gift card (used it on the day of expiration, phew) and store credits to take home this Maven Leopard Jacquard Pencil Skirt from Ann Taylor. I love this skirt! The pattern is gorgeous. The material is a medium weight jacquard. The fit is impeccable. If you are still debating on what to get from the new Fall new arrivals from Ann Taylor, I suggest that you give this skirt a try. Currently they are running a 30% off full-price purchase sale (no code needed). I feel that the skirt is true to size, (I'm wearing size 00P here), so folks smaller than me might find it a tad too big.  The skirt is fully lined and doesn't wrinkle at all. Pretty and functional. Couldn't ask for more.
