Zara Sale

I want to do a quick post on some of the Zara items I ordered to give you an idea of how it fits and looks on me.

1.  Guipure Lace Mini Skirt (Zara Woman, size XS, was $69.9, now $49.99)
The Crochet pattern is so pretty, and I would have kept it in a heartbeat if it weren't for the seriously ridiculous big waist. See the next picture. I was holding 3-4 inches of fabric behind my back in the first picture.
The waist meaures 15.5 inches across. Ouch!

Verdict: Return!

 2. Pencil Skirt with Frill (Zara Woman, size XS, was $79.9, now $59.99)
Nice color, nice fabric. Overall too big and too long for me. And the frill looks ridiculous on me. I now know that peplum is not for everyone. (waist measures 13 inches across).

Verdict: Return

3. Pique navy blazer (Zara basic, size XS, was $79.9, now $59.99) - can't find the link any more. :( Only saw this red one here.
The blazer is tiny!!! I highly recommend petites same size or smaller than me to try this on if you can find it in store. The material is a thick cotton. Machine washable. The arms are too long for me but I'll wear it rolled up anyways so it doesn't bother me that much. Single button closure.

Verdict: Leaning towards keep. What do you think?

4. Printed shirt with Studded Collar (Zara woman, size XS, was $59.9, now $49.99)
See pictures above to see the fit and length. This shirt looks oversized on me, but I love the heavy silk-like material (in reality polyester), and I adore the birdie print. The studded collar adds such a unique touch to the shirt.
Verdict: Leaning towards keep. What do you think?

Now I have also tried on a few regular priced items last week in store and would like to share the pictures with you.

Mint cardigan (XS) like the fit, but don't like the color that much on me.

Cardigan with Crochet detailing (XS) very nice and casual

Printed Sequinned Blazer (XS) - super cool in person
Mint tweed jacket (XS) sleeves are too long
Frayed cardigan (xs) Love and purchased.
Blazer with zips (XS) Fits nice but sleeves too long. Not bad if you want a white jacket with zipper.

Have you bought anything during the Zara sale? Please share.

Sunday Casual - Navy and Stripes

Happy Sunday, everyone! What a gorgeous weekend after a near 100 and humid week. Thank you all for providing such valuable comments on my Crewcut purchase post. I ended up returning the polka dot dress - too child-like, and the anchor mini - boxy and too short, and I'm keeping this $21 heavy knit skirt for weekend wear. I love it.
Outfit Details
Loft sleeveless top in navy (xxsp, very very old)
J.Crew Girls Pep Squad Skirt in Stripe (size 14, buy here, in yellow stripes too)
Target Mossimo wedge (bought in-store for $15. Love the color. Very comfy. Online still full price.)
Amrita Singh Hampton Carnation Ring (buy here)
Amrita Singh West Hampton necklace (buy coral version here)
Zara suede crossbody bag (last Christmas purchase)
Michael Kors watch

A Wow Dress - Trina Turk for Banana Republic Crazy Botanical Twist-Strap Dress

"To really experience life, you need to flirt with extremes. A life lived safely in monotone is not a life lived at all. Why not experience a little of the absolute superfluous?" -- Frank Zambrelli
Outfit Details:
Trina Turk Crazy Botanical twist-strap dress (size 00P, still available in store)
Belt from an H&M dress
J.Crew factory bracelet
Michael Kors watch
Michael Kors sunnies
Romwe bag
Banana Republic cardigan (old)
Chanel earrings
vintage gold chain and heart necklace - gifted

We have just experienced the worst mid-June weather - almost 100 degrees and humid weather for 3 days. Finally this is coming to an end with a few big thunderstorms.  I like wearing silk in humid hot days because it's the most cooling material I know. I brought a cardigan to work thinking I'd freeze but didn't end up using it at all.
Yesterday I have "borrowed" a pink Chanel tote from Bag Borrow Or Steal. I have purchased many items from their private sale website (like this Chanel flap and these Chanel earrings) and was very happy with the experiences.  This is the first time I use their "borrow" service, so I don't know what to expect. I will report out in a week or so. For invite, click here.

Sale Alert: J.Crew 30% off Summer Sale with Code SHOPNOW

Till end of Thursday, J.Crew online website is running a 30% off sale items with code SHOPNOW.  Free shipping on orders of $175+.  Free shipping on Crewcut items.  I have 3 crewcut items to share with you on how how they fit and look.

1. GIRLS' ANCHORS AWEIGH MINI (size 14. Orig. 49.5. On sale for $34.99 $24.49)
Super cute with on trend anchors designs. A little short for my liking, although it is called a mini for that reason, Jasmine reminded me.  Waist is big, but with the adjustable elastic waistband, the problem is solved in seconds.
Verdict: Undecided

2. GIRLS' PEP SQUAD SKIRT IN STRIPE (size 14. orig. 39.5, on sale $29.99 $21)
Soft cotton in a hardy knit. Pull on elastic waistband and a drawstring. I love that it has some weight to it. The pattern is casual and adorable. Great length too. This is my favorite piece of all. Works great with flat sandals or sandals with heels. Please ignore the stripe on stripe look, I was too lazy to change the top. :)
Verdict: Keep.

3. GIRLS' RUFFLE 'ROUND DRESS (size 12 orig. $88, on sale $59.99 $42)
This dress is super super cute. I couldn't find a size 14, so I ordered 12 to try on in case they run large. Unfortunately that is not the case. The armpit and length fit fine, but the waist is a the wrong position.
Verdict: Undecided. I might keep it for Jasmine although she's too thin to fill it in right now.

Are you taking advantage of this sale? What have you ordered?

On a different note, the Pour la Victoire sandals I ordered came today. I love the sandals. They are very well made and very stylish. However, they run half a size too big. My feet are slipping in them. I am so bummed. I am totally loving the black pair. :(

Thanks to Jessica from Hapa Time (my new favorite blog), I was able to score this new little structured bag from ROMWE that I absolutely adore. I usually shy away from sites like this - trying to mimic the latest fashions and sell them cheap. Usually you sacrifice quality in a big way.  When I saw this bag on Jessica, I couldn't help but notice how well the stitching was in zoomed in pictures. I sent her an email to inquire about it and she replied with a lot of details and her personal opinion. With confirmation from her, I felt more confident to order it. The bag was shipped from Nanjing, China, so it took about 2 weeks from the time the order was placed till I got it in my hands. The total cost was $48 with a 20% off coupon and the shipping was free. I was hesitant to post about it before its arrival because there is always a chance that the bag doesn't meet my expectations. Now that I got the bag and used it for 4 days, I can say that I highly recommend it. The leather is very nice and not prone to scratches. The stitching is phenomenal. The size is great and gee I love the color. This is a fantastic substitute to a Celine box if you don't want to shell out $3000 for a purse. That being said, when I tried to find this purse on ROMWE I realized that the purse is sold out already. Sorry for being late on this post.
Outfit Details:
Loft long sleeve top (recent, xxsp, on sale for $12 in stores)
J.Crew cotton skirt (old)
J.Crew pumps
Michael Kors watch
Ann Taylor bangle
vintage gold heart necklace - gifted
Chanel earrings from ebay

P.S. Aldo is having a big sale on flat sandals if you are looking for a pair. Orders over $75 get free shipping. I ordered 4 pairs to try on.

Have a great week!

Update on Aldo order -

  • HARTSTEIN fits nicely, pretty color, cute bottom, but the big bow seems to be out of place.
  • MARANVILLE is a bad choice for people who have higher than normal feet. I could barely put one of my feet into these shoes and the other one I couldn't even get in.
  • CAVNESS is hands down my favorite, although it's the most expensive. HARTSTEIN and MARANVILLE both are synthetic material, but the CAVNESS is not only real leather on the upper but also on the inner sole. It's super soft and comfy. I wore it in the house for a few hours and was absolutely amazed. A definite keeper.
Who would think Aldo sells shoes made in Italy. :)

A Week in Pictures

Hello everyone. When I started this blog two years ago (was it really that long ago?) I gave it a name that represented what this blog was all about - daily fashion update. I was very enthusiastic and was posting almost once a day. Then the frequency slowed down to a few posts a week, which then recently turned into a weekly post - if that much. When I told Bryan about the inconsistency between my post frequency and the blog name, he said he would "help" me get a domain from google -  Joke aside, I really appreciate your support for this blog even though it's not as active as before.  As for what exactly I am spending time on recently, it's work. Work has been swallowing me whole. I work and sleep, and when I feel like I can't handle it any more, I go shopping as a stress relief. This is the only way to keep me above insanity. Let's see how long that'll last.

Instagram 1: Wearing the gorgeous J.Crew pumps to work.
Instagram 2: Flower shopping for my little front yard garden.
Instagram 3: Wearing Ann Taylor Tie front shirt and pencil skirt. Love the fit and color of the skirt.
Instagram 4: Trina Turk for Banana Republic crazy botanical twist-strap dress. (Petite sizes sold out online. Regular sizes here. I have already seen one ebay listing for a 00P for $200.) I am wearing a 00P. See it on Jean here.  There might be still smaller sizes available in store. I absolutely love this dress. One thing to be careful about is that the patterns on each dress is different. Check carefully before you buy.
Instagram 5: Absolutely THE highlight of the week. Bryan and I went to the outlet mall to make a few quick returns, and ran into Jean and Nick on their bi-annual trip to the outlet. We talked for 2 hours non-stop, standing the whole time. You need to move closer, Jean. Housing is so much cheaper in the suburbs. :)

Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Giveaway Winner and Picture Frames

Hello, Everyone. Happy Friday night. I just tallied up the entries for the eShakti giveaway and drew the lucky winner with The winner is ..
Congratulations! Please contact me within the next 48 hours to claim it. Thank you all for entering.

I want to tell you guys how much I'm enjoying this free iphone app called "Picture Frames" I just discovered through Annie. Thank you so much Annie. The app allows you to put multiple pictures into one frame and there are a lot of different combinations to choose from. One flaw of this app is that it won't allow you to directly upload to Instagram. You have to save the created frame to your photo album and upload it from there. Oh well. Maybe one day if I feel the need to bypass this intermediate step, I'll shell out an extra 99 cents for Instaframe, which allows you to do just that.

Here are the two frames I created.
Loft top (xxsp, recently got it on sale for $12)
Loft Marisa capri pants (00P, recently got it on sale for $24, buy here)
Talbots Edith Patent Leather Peep-Toe Platform Slingback (buy here)
J.Crew factory bracelet
JCPenney Ring
Swarovski  earrings

Outfit 1:
Loft dress (00P, old)
Loft cardi (xsp, old)
Belt from an H&M dress
Talbots Edith Patent Leather Peep-Toe Platform Slingback (buy here)
Ann Taylor bracelet
Michael Kors watch
pearls from auction

Outfit 2:
Ann Taylor dress (00P)
Ann Taylor gold skinny belt (old)
Michael Kors watch
Talbots sandals (last season)

On an unrelated note, I just finished the 2nd season of Glee and still enjoying the show a lot. Onto the 3rd season. Hope you all have a great weekend!  Hopefully I'll be spending mine planting some flowers.
