All the Baby Soft Colors and Lace

Sage, green, pink, blue, silver, gray, khaki. I think I managed to put all these pretty subdued colors together and made it work. The J.Crew long sleeve crochet lace-front tee was a new purchase that I happen to love. I got a size xxs and it fit very snug. Petite ladies, this is a great top if J.Crew ever runs the 30% off sale again.  The sage color was on sale for $28, and it seems to have sold out online. Update: the top is on sale now for $24.99

We are having a hard freeze tonight (22 degrees, they said), after a full week of summer-like weather. In order to save our pretty daffodils from freezing over, I decided to bring them in, like so.
Hope you all have a great week.
New England friends, stay warm!

A Week In Outfits & an A-Ha Use For Lint Roller

Happy Friday everyone!!! I hope my east coaster friends are enjoying the unseasonal warm weather this week. I surely did. I took the Friday afternoon off to take care of my trusty Odyssey - her tires are wearing off and she needed 4 new tires. After $478 swiped off my credit card, she came out happy and new again. For some reason, this reminded me of how expensive handbags are. $478 can get you half of a bag if you are lucky, and for some bags, this pays 10% down payment. And you all know what brand I'm talking about. :) During the one hour wait for my car to come out, I enjoyed a nice stroll in the parking lot of the BJ's shopping center, finding my jacket over a summer dress too warm for a March day.

Here are some work outfits for your enjoyment.

I hope I haven't bored you too much yet with outfits after outfits. Here's the exciting part of this post - well, at least for me it is. This morning I went through my morning routine as usual. When I was ready to put my makeup on, I noticed how filthy my Urban Decay Naked Eye shadow box was. Well, it was dirty for a while, but I couldn't clean it because the box was covered with a felt-like material. The more you wipe it the dirtier it gets. The dust just gets smudged in. But this morning, I knew exactly what to do. I took out my lint roller and rolled it across the top of the box. The result was phenomenal. One roll, it went from filthy to clean. I was so excited that I couldn't wait to share this to you all. This method can be used to clean anything with felt like surface, for example, some jewelry boxes.  Yes, this morning I had a "I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express" moment. Hope you find this trick useful.

Missoni for Target Short Sleeve Dress

I don't know why it took so long for me to post this, because I actually like this dress even more than the sleeveless one that I have already posted twice here and here. The color is vivid, the pattern so beautiful, and it's a comfortable dress to wear with or without tights, belted or not belted.

Orangy Red and Faux Leather

I think this is one of the few cases when I wear a piece of clothing I buy the very next day. I just couldn't wait. I scored this bright silky blouse from Ann Taylor yesterday for $9.88 (orig. $98) when I made a quick stop to the store to return a few items that didn't work out. The picture doesn't show it but there is a subtle pebbly pattern on the shirt and it's very pretty and unique.  I see it very easy to style - it goes with black skinnies, pencil skirts, mini skirts, and in the summer, white shorts with a skinny belt - endless possibilities.  For those who wonder, I am wearing a size 2P (I'm usually a 00P for AT tops.) It works fairly well as a casual flowy blouse, as opposed to a more fitted formal look that I think this blouse was meant to be. I put it against my H&M camp shirt in size 2, and they are almost exactly the same on should width and armpit to armpit width, but this shirt is shorter in length.

Express faux leather leggings
Ann Taylor platform pumps

A Week in Outfits & Nordstrom complaints

Hi, everyone. I hope you have had a great week and having fun plans for the weekend. My week flew by just like that (*imagine quick hand movement*) and I'm looking forward to some real relaxation and sleep. Since the busy me didn't have much time to go shopping, I had to de-stress with online purchases. Not all of them worked out, but I have some real nice pieces that I am keeping. Hope to be able to share with all of you soon. As some of you might already know (my twitter friends), I have had some real trouble with Nordstrom online shopping last week. I ordered 4 pairs of shoes - 3 pairs of AGL flats (1 style in two sizes, and another style in 1 size), and 1 pair of Via Spiga boots. Only the boots shipped, and the other 3 pairs of flats (placed in two separate orders in 2 different days) all got cancelled.  I chatted with them online, and all they could tell me was that the inventory was no longer available. I was able to put the flats in the shopping carts and checked out with my credit card with no issue. How on earth could they be not available if I was able to do that? Real inventory not matching the online inventory I suppose. Folks working on IT would be able to tell me how hard it is to have a system that truly tracks the inventory. Being an engineer, I somehow do not think it's that hard. Target is able to do it, Gap/ON/BR is able to do it, even Ann Tayor/Loft whose online website crashes so often that I sometimes wonder if their IT team is simply incompetent has NEVER canceled my order before. Then I remembered that people complained about Barney's online system before. This is making me think that high end retail stores just don't give a crap on their online services, before the majority of their clientele (*rich people*?) do not use them? When I tweeted about my Nordstrom order cancellations on twitter a few other twitter friends joined in and complained about their orders being cancelled as well. One of them said Nordstrom explained to her that if somebody chooses 2-day shipping, priority goes to that person. Aha, too bad for those who wants to save some money and chose their "free standard shipping"! This sickens me, seriously!  Sorry for the Saturday morning venting. I need to do that to get it off my chest. I do not like retailers discriminate!!! Thanks for listening.

Review: Target Mossimo Juniors Skinny Colored Denim + Jason Wu skirt

Colored denim or colored pants are so in this season that it's hard not to notice all the bright neon colors that are popping up everywhere.  My personal take on it is that it'll come and go in one or two season, and the next rotation will be anther 7-10 years. In other words, it's not a fashion trend that will stay here forever. However I very much adore the bright happy colors that will instantaneously lift up my spirit. My only rule to purchasing trendy items is to spend a little as I can. Even though the items don't have to last a long time, I do make sure that I don't sacrifice comfort due to cheap materials. With that said, Target's Mossimo Juniors Skinny Colored Denims are worth mentioning. I tried a couple of pairs on in store, and decided to take 3 pairs home to think about. Note that Target online has 10 colors to choose from, much more than the store has to offer. However, I have to warn you that not every color is made up of the same material. Example: white denim is thicker and has more cotton, less polyester, than the colored ones.

1. Blue - The real color is much more saturated and bright than the pictures. In some lighting, it almost looks teal.

2. Lemon color - Very pretty yellow. As pants I'm not sure if I like it that much.
 3. Pink (reddish) -My favorite of the 3. Bright pinkish red color.
Which color do you prefer?

  • 64% cotton, 33% polyester, 3% spandex

  • Bright colors.
  • Very decent fit. I was wearing the smallest size they carry - size 1. If you are smaller than me, I suggest that you try them on still. The fabric is very stretchy, and may work for you as well. The yellow and blue ones do feel a little tight on the waist.
  • Reasonable price. For $22.99, these pants are fairly cheap. Targets runs 20% off sales online all the time.  I might consider buying them online if I do spot one.
  • Stretchy material. Comfortable.

  • Very low rise. It doesn't bother me that much, but might do for some.
  • 32 inch inseam - needs hemming for most. The material is relatively thin so it should not be hard to do a DIY.

On a different note, while I was in Target going through clearance section, I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted this Jason Wu for Target skirt in size 4. I bought it for my sister and couldn't resist the temptation to try it on. The waist for a size 4 is smaller than I thought - only 13.5 inches across. I might even fit in a size 2 without any alteration! Did I mention that I love this skirt? (retails $29.99).

A Week in Outfits & Igloo Maker

The week I present to you 2 work outfits, 1 work-from-home (wfh) outfit, and a weekend outfit. They don't differ significantly, but I tend to wear my oversized items at home, and more fitted clothing in the office. It's totally my preference, and all 4 outfits would be deemed ok to wear in my casual work environment. Last week, we finally got a day of decent snow.  So kids enjoyed a day off from school and used their igloo maker they got from their aunt for Christmas and made a fort.  I enjoyed a day of working from home wearing slippers and an oversized sweater.

Hope you all have a great weekend!
