Happy New Year

With deep red and jewel toned blue (Ann Taylor accurately named this color "deep harbor"), I'm welcoming 2013 with open arms.
My grandmother passed away 3 days ago at age 94. She lived a full life and didn't have to deal with any pain when she left. She is survived with 6 children, 7 grand children, and 4 great grand children. We will all miss her. Rest in peace, grandma!
Loft floral top (old, buy this pretty Kate Spade version for only $47.25 orig. $225)
Loft merino wool cardigan (buy from Ann Taylor at 50% off now)
Gap pants
Kate Spade bow accented pearls (buy here, single strand here, I got it from the outlet for $48, check that option if you can)
Nine West suede wedges (this year's version here)

Sale Alert: JCrew Extra 30% off Final Sale

with code STYLE2013.

Some of my picks:
Double-cloth slim trench.

See it on me here and on Amber here, comprehensive review by Amber here.

Cambridge Cable Turtleneck Sweater
See it on Wendy here.

Hacking Jacket in Herringbone

Colorblock Check mini
See it on me here.

Polk-dot sequin top
I love this sequins top and I found that the way the Jcrew model wore it was the really the best way to style it. I first bought an xxs and found that my big arms feel too constrained in the tight sleeves, so I sized up to xs.
White shirt from The Limited (this season's version here)
Carolee earrings c/o Carolee

I noticed that some of the items in some sizes don't show final sale, including the hacking jacket in petite 00 and the cambridge cable turtleneck in xxs in heather nightfall. weird, but good.

Loft polka dot top and slim fit cords

Trying out blogger app on iPhone. Maybe this means I can post more often.

Curvy Super Skinny Corduroys (wearing black and beet. love the deep clementine color too, wrinkles a lot though. Kept the black and returned the colored ones, since black doesn't show wrinkles as much. Very very comfortable.)

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

This is a belated Merry Christmas, and a very happy New Year to your family from mine!

This year we stayed at home. Not having to travel during the holidays is in itself a present. I feel very relaxed and enjoying my stress-free vacation. Kids were not short of presents from their parents, aunts and uncles, grandmas and grandpa, and friends. They are enjoying all the love without them being physically here.  They are also enjoying playing with David - a neighbor's boy Tristan's age who is currently living with his parents most of the time in Beijing and occasionally come here to visit.  We had our Christmas brunch at Boston Harbor Hotel - what a treat, and Chinese style dinner at their home - another big feast. Now I can fit into J.Crew's No. 2 pencil skirt without any waist gap.

Jasmine and Tristan finally got their first pets - two guinea pigs - Sheepster (right) and Meepster (left). They are beside themselves when they saw the little ones. (We kept it a very tight secret until the very last minute.)
Jasmine made us a bunny family from playdoh.
I gave Jasmine a mani inspired by my favorite beauty blogger Jen, using some nail colors from Santa :).
And finally, my Christmas presents from Bryan - double strand pearl necklace (8.5-9.5 mm) and bracelet set (bracelet not shown) and a Balenciaga City in Cumin. (If you are looking for a double strand pearl necklace, I highly recommend this one from BJ's. The price is right - originally only $129.99, and now at $40 discount through end of December, the set is only $89.99. These pearls are cultured freshwater pearls, and the shapes are pretty consistent.  Great length 17"-18" too. The bracelet is big for my wrist (7.5"), but I think you can consider it a bonus and it works great as a gift itself.
And you all should know how much I adore this bag! :)
 Banana Republic factory shirt (old)
Banana Republic Factory merino wool sweater (current, in store now, $25.5, love the mustard color)
Loft Julie Ankle Pants in Tile Print Doubleweave Cotton (I love the fit of these pants, hope they stay this way after wash, in store purchase $25)
Michael Kors watch

This is how a size 0P fit on me.
I also found a size 00P green tweed skirt posted by jean here on sale for $49.99 (with extra 25% off it came to about $37.5).

J.Crew Colorblock Check Mini & Phillip Lim Pashli Mini Satchel

HELLO! Sorry for being MIA for soooo long. I have been so "trapped" at work that I felt like I got sucked into a time warp and lost track of what happened in real world.  I never thought I'd enjoy my work this much  before since the reason I went to engineering was because my parents threw me into this field. Both of them were engineers, my mother a satellite engineer to boot. Last couple of weeks, I went through a period of sorrow (the chip I built wouldn't work - it's like having a kid of yours sick in the hospital) to a mere joy (finding the root cause of the problem and worked around it). This is by no means the first chip I help build, but I have never felt so attached before.. I have also for the first time felt so lucky to be working with so many of these talented people.  My coworkers made me proud. I am proud of my work.

Sorry about the babbling. I have so much emotion right now and I felt I needed to put it out somewhere so I can remember later. Working on post silicon power on have opened my eyes and introduced me to a whole new world.

On to the outfit. The skirt was a store purchase for less than $45. Online price is still $89.99 down from the original $138. Size 00 fit me perfectly. It's a great quality wool mini and it's super cute in person. I acquired this Phillip Lim Pashli mini satchel more than a month ago and never got a chance to use it until recently.  I love the design of this satchel and the color is a great neutral that goes with pretty much everything. The golden double zippered front is my absolute favorite.

You can wear it crossbody like this:
Or hold it in your hands like this:
Or you can wear it like a shoulder bag casually like this:
 The possibility is endless.

French Connection Polka Dot Pullover Sweater

.. with a kitty face...

Animals on sweaters is a big trend this year that I haven't been able to fully appreciate.  Hens, horses, dogs,  you name it.  I think the reason why I don't care for them is because most of the designs make the animals too big, or too symmetrical. Polka dot sweaters are all over the place too. I like the patterns on most of the pieces, but they are so ubiquitous that I've been looking for something unique.  When you put the too trends together, you got a pretty amazing piece. This French Connection sweater is so cute in person that I couldn't wait to put it on when I got it. I bought it from Lord and Taylor online, but can't find the link any more. Sold out already? I will check back and see if they have more in stock later.
Looks pretty good peeking out from a coat too.

Michael Kors print blouse and J.Crew coupon

After 2 consecutive 14 hour work day, I felt pretty burned out. Yes, that was Friday and Saturday. Fortunately, I got to spend Sunday at home so I could take care of some of the chores - like laundry and bill paying. Posts will be sporadic from now on, as you all have noticed, and I will have very little time reading blogs. I do want to share a recent satisfactory purchase from Nordstrom. I love the pattern of this MICHAEL Michael Kors blouse very much. The golden buttons are adorable. It's made of 100% polyester. This is a heavier weight poly so it looks pretty nice in person. It's machine washable and dryable. A much welcomed change from the high maintenance silk blouses. I'm wearing a size Petite P, and it was sold out online already. You can check in store with item #577323 if you are interested. The petite version is 40% off right now and the regular sized version is 50% off. Sleeves are a bit long, but fit is very nice.

I wore this outfit yesterday for work.

Ann Taylor skirts and belt
 Michael Kors watch
Stella & Dot bracelet (won from AlterationsNeeded giveaway)

FYI. When I cleaned out my wallet today, I noticed a 20% off your next purchase of $100 or more coupon for when using J.Crew card. I can be used for sale and non-sale items.  It's expiring today.  If anyone is interested, please email me. I will send you the code.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!

OOTD: Burgundy + Camel

During the closet organization, this little burgundy swing sweater jacket surfaced. After a little bit of ironing and coercing, it bounced back in shape and it reminded me why I brought it home in the first place. Oh and guess what came to mind in terms of pairing? Trusted camel wool skirt and Prada boots.

Sale Alert: J.Crew online 25% off EVERYTHING

J.Crew is having a site wide sale - 25% off & Free shipping on your order of $150+ with code OURTREAT. They don't run this kind of deal very often. Time to pick up your favorite coat or blazer in classic colors that never go on sale.
Don't for get to use ebates to get 3% back. Invite here.

My picks -
I'm wearing a size 0P which is just a tad too big, and I ended up keeping the 00P (not shown here). See Jean's comprehensive review of this coat here.

If you don't have a navy blazer already, do try this one. One of my favorite purchase of the year, and this classic color doesn't go on sale.
See my post on its comparison with Madewell Academy blazer. Yes, I ended up with the schoolboy.

This version has a velvety feel to it. Fits very similar to the schoolboy blazer in navy, just a lot smoother texture. I'm wearing last year's version in 00P. Love the red color.
Blythe blouses do go on sale, but only limited to some colors. I have not seen either black or white on sale before, so I picked up a few this time.  This is the neon rose color I picked up in the summer in 00P.

Again, classic or popular colors never go on sale.  The left and middle ones are crimson maple and spicy gold. The right one is No. 2 pencil skirt in Herringbone.

I'm wearing the factory version in XS. Love love love this jacket!!!

Are you shopping this sale? What are you getting?

Graphic Songstress by Madewell

YSL beauty: 15% off on your entire order with code EXCLUSIVE. Free shipping, no minimum purchase.
I'm wearing #29 Opera Rose in this post and this and this earlier posts. (Got it as a birthday present from the husband. Been looking out for more colors since then.) Ordered #27 Rose Paris and #17 Red Muse. Found a very useful youtube video with 11 color swatches here.
expires: 10/27/2012

This chevron pattern was so catching that it literally drew me into the store. After I touched it, it compelled me to try it on. Bad idea, since I fell in love with it when it was full price. I held it in my arm while I was browsing through other things in the store, then put it back reluctantly before I left the store... only to find myself back in the store a week later looking for it.  I was happy to find that the sweater I couldn't forget was then on sale and on top of that the store was running an extra 30% off. Patience paid off, and it came home with me for less than half the price. If only stories like that can repeat every time I have my eye on something.  Remember the 3 meerkat sweater I fell in love with also from Madewell?  It never made it to sale before it disappeared completely from the store. I am so glad I got it when it was available.
Outfit Details
Gap shirt (old)
Madewell graphic songstress cardigan (sold out online, try b&m)
Gap corduroy leggings (last season's, love! 00R. Runs short. This season's sold here, love the vamp red)
Talbots pumps (last season's)
Chanel m/l flap
Forever 21 necklace

Thank you for stopping by and have a great Friday!

OOTD: Neutral and ikat & New Closet

H&M sleeveless top (old)
Loft icat merino wool sweater (old) and trench (old)
Ann Taylor wool skirt (buy here) and pumps (this season's version here)
Chanel sunnies, earrings, purse (all from BBOS, invite here, extra 20% off with code OCT2012, expires 10/23/2012 midnight EST)

Not a good idea to be mad at the photographer when he's taking your picture.  For whatever it's worth, you now see how I look when I'm mad ... and still trying to look happy for all of you to see. Not working so well.

On a relatively more cheerful note, I am in the middle of organizing my closet, and it's looking a lot better already. Thanks to Bryan and my Dad who spent the weekend installing the closet shelfing. We had it custom designed by the Container Store.  If you are considering a nicer option than the Home Depot version and don't want to pay arms and legs for a professional installed closet, this is an option for you. The system is not cheap, but very easy to install and change. The quality is top notch. I think it's worth every penny. Here's a before and after picture of my side of the closet.

Thank you all for reading, and have a wonderful Wednesday!

Jason Wu For Target set

Hi everyone. Thank you so much for commenting on my last post. I really appreciate it. I am not bothered by the pattern, in fact, I like it a lot. I think it's a personal preference.  As of today, this jacket is a keeper for me and I really think it's going to be one of my favorite items in my closet.  I was on business trip last week and was overwhelmed by work. I slept for about 6.5 hours every night for 6 nights and that was killing me. I need 8-9 hours of sleep to feel normal. I'm so glad to be back at home and be able to read some blogs and write a few of my own.

Remember back in February, when Jason Wu and Target collaboration was available to the consumer online and in selective stores? There was a big frenzy where people stayed in line outside of Target stores (in the cold) before it opened so they can get the best selections of this famous designer's collection at Target price point. I did a post on this collection here, where I linked a lot of reviews of this collection. I went to the store around noon and found empty shelves and racks with only the signs left.  A few weeks later, I spotted a size 4 of a pleated skirt hanging lonely in a random spot and picked it up for my sister. Size 4 was way too generous of a fit on me, and even though I loved the skirt and considered keeping the size 4 for myself for a while, I finally came to my senses and sent it over to my sister.  My twitter friend DoubleZeroP knew I was interested in this skirt and offered to sell hers to me when she decided to return it. I finally got the size 2 (smallest size available) of the skirt I wanted and a top to match too. Thank you so much DoubleZeroP!  This outfit was taken last weekend when the wind was fierce, but still warm enough to wear a skirt. I'm in full blown fall mode today - wool cardigan and tall boots to fight the 34 degree temperature this morning.

Alice + Olivia Kidman Tweed Jacket

Hi everyone. Happy Saturday. Some of you have noticed that I've been MIA for the last 2 weeks. I received emails asking if I was ok. (Thank you so much again for thinking of me!)  I want to let you know that I am alive, and I am slowly recovering from a very bad cold. Whatever virus it was that was brought back by my son from school (although he vehemently denied it) and shared among our family was a very potent one and knocked me out for at least 2 weeks until the doctor prescribed antibiotics. The drug seemed to have done the tricks but I'm still not 100%.  Feeling just a bit under the weather ALL THE TIME.  That has not been able to deter me from taking advantage of some of the great promotions going on online, and I will share some of my keepers in future posts.

I keep a list of things I want and try to stick to it. There is one item that has been on my list for over a year and it seems to be one of the hardest items to acquire.  The name is "tweed jacket" - Chanel style. A real Chanel jacket has never crossed my mind (not willing to shell out $3000) but I have been on the lookout for a close dupe made in decent quality (cheaply made dupes are out of the question). Also because I don't have a trusted tailor (really need to find one soon), the limitation has been that the fit is also a big requirement. This Alice + Olivia Kidman jacket is close to perfect. I can say that the only thing I don't like about it is the price tag!  ($500 with no discount) The jacket was made in New York City. The details are amazing. It's a very well made piece. There are 3 hidden hooks in front so you can wear it closed.  It's fully lined and the lining is beautiful - there are two metal chains stitched on either side of the front flap. The sleeves are a perfect length, no shortening required.  It could be a little slimmer but it's fine as is. What do you think? Is it worth keeping in your opinion?  Do you have any other recommendations?

Loft long sleeve top (old, Ann Taylor version here, Theory version here)

F21 faux leather shorts (old, similar here)
Ann Taylor platform perfect pumps (old, block heel version here)

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!
