My first purchase on Billion Dollar Babes

Annie from ReallyPetite.com introduced me to this sample sale site, and I find its collections to be very interesting. They have very frequent Designer Jewelry & Handbag sale, including Chanel, Gucci, Fendi and more, compared to other sample sites I frequent, like Ruelala, Hautelook. Thank you, Annie.

I just made my first purchase today at the Billion Dollar Babes, woohoo, and this is what I got - a genuine leather moto vest in fuchsia.

I debated between pink vs. black, and decided to go with a more fun color. Let's hope it fits, and cross your fingers for me. :)

I used DEALIOMAY11 (exp. May 31, 2011) for another $10 off $100+. ;)

A Little Tweed: Banana Republic Tweed Raw Edge Jacket

The white lace dress went back to the store yesterday thanks to all you lady's feedback. After the return, I browsed through BR's sale rack out of habit. I was not looking for anything in particular, and this little tweed jacket jumped out, calling for my name. :) Has this ever happened to you before? I found one in 00P, and grabbed her quickly.  There was no one around me at the time.  I threw it on right then and there on top of my sleeveless dress and didn't even bother for a fitting room. Just like that I was not able to part with her any more. I took her home like a new baby. Here she is paired with a simple T-shirt and white denim shorts, along with the forever classy Chanel.

The white denim shorts was an old Loft cropped jeans. The waist fit nicely but the pants were too loose on the leg part. It almost got donated, and I suddenly felt industrious and decided to make a pair of shorts out of it.  All I ever did was to cut the legs off and rolled up the bottoms to make cuffs. That was the hardest DIY project I have ever done.  HAHA.

I just noticed that the online price is on sale at $149.99 (regular $175). Get 30% off with BRGET30. In store, the jacket was on sale for $89.99. With the mystery card I got an additional 30% off. So the jacket came to about $63.

The Limited tee (xs, old)
Old Loft jeans altered as shorts
Aldo sandals (last season)
Banana Republic belts (old)
Chanel classic M/L flap

Happy Memorial Day to my US readers!

Keep or Return: BR Chloe Lace Dress (00P)

Hi everyone. I feel so out of touch to the blogging world this pass week due to my work load and a business trip to Fort Collins this week that I'm still in. I hardly could find time to call home, let alone checking blogs. I wanted to get this post out a lot sooner, but didn't get a chance until now.  I will keep it short, since I'm very tired right now trying to catch up on sleep. I don't know how people deal with traveling all the time. I certainly don't deal with it nicely.

This Banana Republic Chloe lace dress (00P) was a surprise find in the store when it was running a 40% extra off sale price two weekends ago.  There were two dresses left and one was a 00P. The sale price has gone down since then, but without the extra 40% it's still more expensive. The online site has very controversial reviews of this dress.

Can't help but post a close shot at my baby again. It's just too adorable. :)

What I like:
-- Great fit with no need of alteration what so ever
-- Great length for petites
-- Very pretty lace/crochet
-- Great pure white color

What I don't like:
-- Very thin and delicate
-- On close inspections, the stitchings look cheap.
-- See through. It can be fixed by wearing nude bras and panties, but still bit too much for me.
-- There are two darts in the front and two in the back on the waist line. They make the fit look a bit weird when worn without a belt. The belt seems to fix the problem.
-- It's too expensive for the quality.

So what do you think? Shall I keep it or return it?

Weather in Boston has been terrible, terrible. Rainy, drizzly, damp, and cold. Just miserable. I think I finally caught the bug that my whole family has gotten one by one. Just in time for my business trip to Colorado next week. Sigh. No new photos for you guys, but I realized that I never posted this outfit that I wore to the mall 3 weeks ago. So here you go. I am now so missing my old long hair that got chopped on Mother's Day. :(

Reveal: My New Investment

Hello, my friends. I have been so MIA that I don't even know where to start any more after being absent for sooooo long. In fact I noticed from the date of my last picture taken that I haven't had any pictures taken for a full 2 weeks. This trend is going to last for a while because of my work commitment. In the mean time, have you noticed my new blog banner? Do you like it? My little girl designed it for me and sent it to my hotmail account yesterday and asked me to check it out. I didn't ask her to do it, she did it for fun. Then she made me one for each season after knowing how much I loved it. :)

Some of you already know that I have been looking for a Chanel classic flap. After learning about the June 1st price increase, I decided that I might as well get it now than later. (Yes, it's confirmed. The Medium flap will be retailing $3900 on June 1st.) I have been stalking Ebay for a few weeks.  After making a purchase on a pre-owned black caviar medium flap with silver hardware (yes, that was what I decided to get after debating about the color choice for a while), and paid for it, Ebay decided to pull the listing altogether, claiming that the seller has violated some Ebay policy. You can imagine my stress level at that point.  Although I got my money back from the seller pretty quickly, I felt completely turned off by the idea of purchasing a timeless piece like Chanel from Ebay. The stress level and time spent trying to figure out if it's authentic is not worth the several hundred dollars saved. I decided to go the standard route - go to a Chanel Boutique and pick the one I love.  Touch and feel it and put it on in front of the mirror before making the decision to buy.  Of course with the news on price increase, almost every single classic flap around was sold out.  BUT, I found this beauty, and it was love at first sight.

This beauty is soooo pretty in person that I simply could not take my eyes off of it. The color changes in different lighting which makes it so interesting. Sometimes I see purple, sometimes I see brown, sometimes I simply see red.  I can wear it dressed up, or dressed down. It doesn't matter. It is simply beautiful. There you have it. My search is over. And I will love this bag for a long long time. I already have a plan for its next owner, but not for a long time. :)

GUEST POST: Picking Shoes to Wear With an Evening Gown

Whether you are off to a formal black-tie affair or a night at the opera, the most elegant evening gown can lose its magic if it’s paired with the wrong shoes. With so many styles to choose from, finding the perfect shoes to compliment your gown can sometimes seem a daunting task. When selecting evening shoes its important to strike a balance between style and comfort. So before you head out shopping, you can simplify the task by getting a clear idea in advance of the style, color and height of the shoes you are seeking. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Choose small size shoes that coordinate with or compliment your dress. Either select shoes that match the color of your dress or provide a contrast by coordinating them with an evening bag or jewelry. As a rule of thumb, your shoes and your dress shouldn’t compete. If your dress is a complicated design with a lot of eye-catching details and embellishments, choose a simple, elegant shoe. Conversely, if you are wearing a dress with simple classic lines, you can dress it up with a pair of over-the-top shoes.

Consider how much time you are going to be spending on your feet during the evening. Nothing can ruin a great night out faster than spending it in pain. If you are going to be dancing or walking any distance, you need to select shoes that are comfortable to wear. If you are planning on doing a lot dancing, you may want to check out dance stores that cater to ballroom dancers. They sell beautiful shoes that are specifically designed for dancing. Wherever you shop, make sure you get a good fit and try the shoes out before you buy them. Walk around in the store and if they pinch or rub, don’t buy them. Once you find the right shoes and get them home, break them in by wearing them around the house for a few hours.

There are a number of factors to consider when deciding on petite shoes heel height. It needs to be comfortable for you, and if you are not used to wearing super-high stiletto heels they should be avoided. For anyone looking for some extra height, platform shoes with either wedge or thicker high heels are a more comfortable option. If you are wearing a full length gown, you will want it to just brush the floor. Try your dress on with shoes of varying heights from your own closet to determine how high your evening shoes will need to be. You will also want to consider your own height and that of your escort. Depending on the style of your evening gown, ballet flats or a low pump or sandal with a kitten heel or French heel may be great choice.

Picking the perfect evening shoes can make the difference between a night of misery and a night to remember. So the next time you are dressing up for a special occasion, make sure you’re glamorous, and comfortable, from head to toe.

An Early Mother's Day Present

I am having a blogger's withdrawal recently. For one thing, I am a little sick of outfit posts. On top of that, I'm really caught up at work, so I don't even have time to read blogs. This gives me zero motivation and inspiration. My two little ones got really sick one after another and just got a bit better and both went back to school today. It's quite a big relief that they are almost back to normal.  Oh, guess what I got from my precious daughter after work today? A drawing of Mommy posing for an outfit picture. She told me it's supposed to be the image from the camera. I LOVE IT!

I couldn't get the scanner to scan the whole page, so I have to type it up. Here's what she wrote:

"My mom rocks! She is AWESOME! When she brings me to the mall with her, it makes me so happy. I love doing things with her, especially SHOPPING!!!! She is so good at almost everything. She really is the best!"

This early Mother's Day gift makes me very happy!

On a separate note, I discovered an awesome iphone app that I think everyone with a smartphone should have. It's called "Key Ring". It allows you to scan in all the reward cards that you have on your key ring so you don't have to carry them around with you all the time. I did that after dinner today and now all I have to carry with me is the car key and the remote control. How awesome is that! Best part, the app is FREE! Check it out!

Hope everyone is having a great week, and talk to you soon!

OOTD: Playing with Color - J.Crew Skirt Looking for New Home

Spring brings endless opportunities for dressing up in colors.  I don't think I'm one of those who is afraid of colors, but I sometimes do feel that putting multiple colors together and make them work together is a tough job.  Understanding the color wheel actually make this daunting task just a tad bit easier.  Read this fantastic post on color combination by Jean from Extra Petite. Watch this fun video on putting colors together by Wendy's Lookbook. See many bloggers wear colorful outfit in Kileen's Color Brigade. Here's my entry this week.

Outfit Details:
Loft Tee, Cardigan
J.Crew Cord skirt
Ann Taylor belt
Loft trench
Aldo sandal
Michael Kors sunglasses

I bought this corduroy skirt a couple of years ago from J.Crew outlet and only wore it a grand total of twice. It's a size 0, and the waist and hip are both too big on me. (waist measures 14" across, and it sits below the waist.) There is a string on the inside of the waist that I used to tie it so it won't fall off. And I could use a belt to secure. Even so I feel this skirt is better off on a person one size bigger than me. I'm giving this skirt away for $10 + $5 shipping/handling. Email me or put a comment on this post if you are interested.
