PFC #7: The Little Black Dress

Thank you, Jessy from The Little Dust Princess, for hosting this month's Petite Fashion Challenge!!!

The challenge:
A little black dress (LBD) is essential in every woman's wardrobe. It's always great for back-up if you run out of outfit ideas for a night out. Adding a pop of colour to your LBD will change up its look and make your dress a little less boring.

I lost track of how many times I wore this Amrita Singh necklace since I got it a few weeks ago. It's now my new favorite jewelry. It certainly does the job of sprucing up the LBD. I have a feeling a lot of you today participating in this challenge will reach for the AS jewelry. Can't wait to see if I'm right. Hehe.

OOTD: Lace on Lace

I am not a lace type of girl. I never owned anything lace until you girls rocked into my world. Here I am wearing not one, but two pieces of lace in the same outfit. CRAZY! The skirt was washed according to the instruction on tag, but when I took it out of the washer, it was ruined beyond recognition! I almost burst into tears. I took the deformed skirt to my tailor (a.k.a Dad) and asked him if he could fix it, before I throw it out. I can't bear the thought of it. He spent a week working on it. It's not perfect, but it's almost back to its original form. I would never put it in water again. Note to myself: H&M quality = BAD. (Not that I didn't know it before, just reminding myself.)

OOTD: Leather Jacket and Leopard Print Scarf

Hi everyone. I hope you had a great week. Mine was insanely busy. Working around the clock and meetings. I am sooooo glad today is almost over and I will be able to take a long weekend off. Tomorrow, I will take 5 kids (including mine) to the movie theater to see "Rio the movie". I will be stuck with watching kids' movies for another few years. For now I'm enjoying every single movie I watch with them. :) Call me crazy.

The weather has been terrible in Massachusetts - cold, rainy, and windy. Evil, evil weather. I miss California, so much... Today, no rain was in the forecast but it was still COLD.  To spruce up my spirit, I took out the Theory jacket I bought last year and finished it with my all time favorite scarf - J.Crew Leopard print scarf. I have been wearing this scarf almost every day since I bought it (with my beloved J.Crew Stadium Cloth Peacoat), but never had a chance to take a picture until today. I think the leather jacket and leopard print naturally go together.  It creates a very chic look without trying too hard.  I tweeted about the stadium-cloth peacoat size 0P was again available in dark fatigue color for $69.99 online this morning. Free shipping on all orders with code WARMUP.  They were all gone within an hour after I tweeted.

These AT bootcut jeans used to be my favorite before I found the GAP legging jeans.  I haven't worn them that much since. I'm bringing it out to show some love. The pictures remind me why I loved it so much.

Theory leather jacket
H&M sweater
Ann Taylor bootcut jeans

OOTD: Jumping On the Chambray Wagon

I have been resisting chambray shirts for a while. Well, at least since Jean did her review on a Converse Chambray shirt from Target, then rolled out her outfit post with this shirt. Oh, wait, there's more. She just couldn't get enough of this shirt. What's the magic? I did a little analysis in my head.  It's actually not very hard to figure out. It's the same magic as a pair of nice blue jeans. Why does blue jeans go with everything? If you can figure that out, then you will get the reason why the shirt goes with everything. I mean everything!  I couldn't resist any more when I tried the Ann Taylor version last weekend.  The quality, the fit, the comfort, and the potential to be worn with every single skirt I have in the wardrobe gave me the excuse to shell out $46 for a button down shirt. 00P fit me perfectly just off the rack, and I took it out for a spin the second day I bought it. I love it! Ann Taylor have extended their 40% off sale in store and online. If you don't have a chambray shirt in your wardrobe yet, this is the opportunity to get one. I feel like a saleswoman at work, but really, I just love this shirt so much, that I'm willing to do a free advertisement for Ann Taylor here.

The shirt is totally stealing the thunder here, but I'd also like to mention the Compact Doubleweave Utility Skirt I got with the shirt. It's cute, and 00P fits me like a glove. Online has a limestone version as well. I love it enough to also have ordered that color. The skirt is on sale for $59.99. You get 40% off with CODE SPRING40.

May I also mention the coral necklace and ring by Amrita Singh? I love, love, love these bright colored statement jewelry.  I purchased them from Hautelook when they were sold at fraction of the retail price. If you need an invite to Hautelook, here is my personal link. Or if you can't wait for a sample sale, you can also use code "extrapetite" for 20% off at www.amritasingh.com.  See Jean's post for details.

It was actually quite chilly this morning without a jacket.

OOTD: Very LOFTy today

When this Loft shirt showed up in the store a few months ago, I made a mental note to myself -- if it ever goes on sale, I'm getting it! Love the color! The purple is amazing, isn't it? I also love the drapeyness of the fabric. So comfy looking yet stylish. Well, you know why I'm wearing it now. It went on super sale and I snatched it for $20. The skirt is one of my favorite, because it FITS SO PERFECTLY.  The belt is from the weekend J.Crew haul. See how tiny it is? The end only sticks out 2-3 inches. I was wearing a size xs. The belt is meant be worn on the natural waist, so if you plan on wearing it low, size up. I'm wearing a Swarovski crystal snake ring (love it) and donut pendant from BR factory.  Nail color: Silver.

Hope you all have a great week!!!

J.Crew 20% off haul and meet up picture

After reading Gigi's post on J.Crew in-store pricing today I decided to stop by J.Crew to check it out. I was quite happy with the trip. Here's what I got:

1. Shawl-collar cardigan
was $110, online price $69.99, in-store price $19.99 ($16 w/ 20% off)
I think an xx-small would have fit me perfectly, but the smallest size was an x-small. I tried it on and it wasn't bad at all. It's made of 100% cotton, so it's comfy. It's thick and hefty, and could totally be used as a spring jacket to throw on. For $20 ($16 with 20% off) I was not going to pass it on. Here's how xsp looks on me.

2. Saturday Sweater
Orig. $69.50. Online price: Still $69.50. In-store price $19.99 ($16 w/ 20% off)
Again xx-small would have been ideal albeit still long, but since the design is a casual looser body, after I scrunch it up a bit, it actually looks pretty cute. I forgot to take a picture, but I got an xsp in a very pretty light green color.

3. Whip-snake waist belt

Orig. price $39.50. Online price $24.5. In-store price $9.99 ($8 after 20% off)
These belts are so tiny, and pretty, that I recommend that every petite lady go and buy one in every color. I bought 3 colors in xs - lilac, white, and light green.

4. Leopard print scarf

Orig. price $59.5 - not on sale. with 20% off it's $47.61. Not a fantastic price, but I absolutely fell in love. The scarf is made of silk, wool and cashmere. It's super soft and luxurious. I'm not kidding. I bought it so that I can secure my purchase in case it's out of stock. See how Wendy from Wendy's lookbook rock a leopard print scarf. This scarf looks almost like a replica of the Louis Vuitton scarf she was wearing, only at a fraction of the price.

And guess who I met with in the weekend at the outlet mall?

I returned my defective laptop bag to Bloomingdale's today and saw Jane (Chanel SA) at the Chanel boutique. I went in and said hello. She was so happy to see me and we talked for a long time. She showed me some bags and I completely fell in love with a light beige M/L flap. It was GORGEOUS! Need... to... resist... temptation...

Hope you all had a great weekend, and good night. :)

OOTD: Spring layering

I walked out the door this morning to go to work. "snap", the beloved laptop bag almost fell to the ground. I thought it was the latch that somehow got undone. But no, the metal piece snapped. I have updated the post with some pictures at the end.

I want to apologize for not being able to keep up with blog reading and commenting these days.  Hopefully I'll get less busy one of those days. Just wishful thinking.

On to today's OOTD. I love spring. This is the season to layer. I love adding visual interest to an outfit by adding layers of different texture, color and pattern.  So I created this outfit to accomplish that.
Texture: silk, cotton, wool, nylon
Color: beige, gold, brown, blue, taupe
Pattern: solid, floral
I was oh so excited to bring out my AT pumps for the first time after I bought it. :)

J.Jill silk top (xxsp)

Rainy Day Calls for the Color Red

Totally happy about the temperatures finally climbing to the 50s for the high. Not happy about the rain. It was windy and dreary but I wasn't going to let the weather affect my mood. So I put on this red Tulip skirt to brighten up my day.  Perfect for a rainy day and just in time for Kileen's color brigade.

Hilarious quote on the internet "After Monday and Tuesday, even the calendar says W.T.F."

Review: Tory Burch Audra leather laptop bag and giveaway winners (updated)

I have an update at the end of this post. Please read to the bottom.

Congratulations to the two winners of the Carolee earrings giveaway: Really Petite and R.L. Please contact me via email to claim your prizes.

Today I equated my 8-year old son to the last Chinese Emperor - Puyi. Totally useless, and couldn't even tie his own shoe laces as an adult. My son wanted to know why he couldn't do that, I told him it was because he had servants to do everything for him. "Oh, so he just sits there everyday and do nothing?" he asked. "Yup, pretty much." I answered without hesitating. "So he's a couch potato then." My son concluded. "Well, there was no TV at the time, so he couldn't be watching TV." I told him, "also, there was no couch at the time, they had hard benches instead." (Gee, our life is pretty good nowadays, isn't it?) The boy thought for a few second and said,"He's a bench potato!" My husband overheard the conversation and said,"They certainly had benches then, but definitely no potatoes!" Do I have a whole house of geeks or what!

Some of my twitter friends probably already knew that I was looking for a laptop bag to fit my huge oversized over powerful HP work laptop I have. I lurked on ebags.com for a week, and found this one promising, but I also thought it was too manly. Then a twitter friend mentioned this Etienne Aigner Business Jacquard Business Tote. I thought it was very promising, but thought I'd look a little further. Hanna pointed me to The Ambitionist by Taryn Zhang. I absolutely love the design, but the measurement shows that my laptop is just a tad too big.

My laptop measures: 14"x11"x1.25". All the bags are measured on the outside, so you need to pad all 3 numbers a bit to make sure it fits. I won't bore you with all the details of how I found this bag, but I found it and it was love at first sight. I bought it at Bloomingdales during their Friends and Family sales event but they don't have the same bag online. I saw the Tory Burch Alice Quilted Leather Laptop Case in store and didn't like it at all.

Details of the Tory Burch Audra Leather Laptop Bag:
-- All leather and well made stitching.
-- Comes in two beautiful colors: Black and Brown. (Website lists Almond, but I see the color as more of a tan/brown)
-- Dimensions: 15"x12"x2". Perfect fit for my laptop. No wiggle room.
-- Top zip-around closure with beautiful gold tone hardware.
-- Exterior magnetic slip pocket good only for some paper.
-- Weighs about 1.5 pounds.
-- Adjustable straps, can be worn as a shoulder bag or crossbody.
-- Retails for $250. Reasonable for a designer bag.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this bag. I used to love this bag. :(

Important update on 4/7/2011: The third day of using this bag to tow my 6 pound laptop from home to work and back. (Really just from home to the garage, from the parking lot at work to my cubicle and back.) The metal piece between the bag and the shoulder strap snapped.  Fortunately only one side broke and I was quick enough to save the laptop. When I bought this bag I was concerned about leather ripping, but never would have thought the metal part would break. Shame on Tory Burch. This bag is going back to the store.
The good side

The broken piece
Obviously I don't recommend this bag to anyone, and I'm kind of glad that this happened before the return window expired. The search goes on ...
