HOW TO STYLE REQUEST: Vest

Hello everyone. Hope you are having a great week so far. I am experimenting with a new idea for my blog. The idea is every 3-4 weeks, I will post a HOW TO STYLE REQUEST along with the pictures of the item that needs to be styled. Please post in the comment how you envision the item to be styled. In a week or two, I will do a HOW TO STYLE RESPONSE post that will incorporate your ideas into outfits. What do you think? I think it's gonna be fun.

Let's start with my first HOW TO STYLE REQUEST: Vest.

Let your creativity flow!

^ I just created that. : ) Tuck in the front of the tank a little and let the back droop. I didn't pick those shoes (they came with the skinny jeans pic) so wear w/e shoes you want. And of course I incorporated your MT bag into this!

  2. I think this vest would look cute with a plain T underneath and shorts either jeans or beige/white shorts. A belt would look good too, either a decorated or plain dark brown one would look nice :)

  3. I would wear a crispy white button up and cuff up the sleeves and then throw a fitted blazer over it styled with a long necklace and pair it with pumps and pencil skirt. Vests reminds me of Kelly (AlterationsNeeded). She wears a vest so well:)

  4. Fun idea!!! I picked up that vest at the BR in Seattle but then thought...what would I even wear with this?! So I put it back!  Aww!!  Kicking myself.  :p

Top: a white or beige neutral top...preferably fitting
    Bottom: silk patterned skirt
Shoes:  heels!  oxford pumps would be fun!
Accessories: Big and bold!  A long necklace would be pretty with a cuff!

I cannot wait to see your final product!!

  6. I've been seeing a lot of ladies wear a men's wear vest over a feminine flowy dress.  I really like the contrast of that! I've never done it myself though!

  7. Jessy, I don't have a tank like that. Any substitute you can think of?

  8. Some sort of loose fitting tank can work. :D If not, maybe a white tee.

  9. Love menswear inspired pieces...  This vest is making me think of white blouse with a full gingham or stripe skirt! Paired with a fun accent bright shoe!  Thank you for following Bravoe Runway and I look forward to how you'll be wearing this vest!

  10. Great idea, Vicky! Unfortunately I don't know how to style it. I think Kelly picked up the exact same vest. I am sure she'll come up with some great ideas for you :)

  15. Everytime I walk by vests, I stop to contemplate whether I can make it work in my wardrobe. And everytime I end up walking away, so I won't be of much help :) I can see the vest going nicely with a black pencil skirt, pumps, and a button-up. Or with skinny/bootcut trousers/jeans. I think lots of big jewelry (layered necklaces?) can tone down the masculine look. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

  16. what a great idea!!  this is a really cute vest and i like Jessy's outfit suggestion.  i could also even see it layered over a tank and worn with a pencil skirt for a more feminine look.  can't wait to see what you come up with!

  17. Now that I look back at the vest...I long necklace would probably get mixed up with the buttons!  So I vote for a chunky necklace that does not touch the vest.

  18. Oh! Fun! Great idea! My little vest is at the tailor right now, so I'll save any styling ideas for when I get it back, but I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's ideas put into action in your follow up post!

  19. I have no idea how to style a vest, which is why I don't own one haha...I will be very interested to see all of the suggestions and what you end up wearing!  This is such a great idea for a feature!  It might actually be really fun for a petite fashion challenge too....if we all picked an item we struggled styling, then were randomly partnered up and had to style the item for each other then post a picture of the final outfit...could be fun!

  20. No one does menswear inspired look better than you do, Kelly. I can't wait to see how you style it, so I can be a copy cat. :)

  21. Oh, Cee, I'm that way too. But you know me. I like to experiment. ;)

  22. VIcky, great idea for a post series...the best part is that you personally benefit with all these new styling ideas, so your readers who have similar items do too : ) I don't have a vest, but I've only seen them on Kelly and I like how she has them layered under her blazer (more of a Fall look for us here in New England).

  23. what can't you wear a vest with is the better question!  I just bought another vest.  so let's see.
    1. my fave ensemble: tunic-length blouse w/sleeves, preferable in a feminine flowy mat'l.  vest.  skinny jeans (try your green ones even).
    2. ever try sheath dress (round neck only), vest, blazer?  too structured?
    3. let's try a little office vixen, shall we?  collar shirt, vest, pencil skirt.  how hot would it be if u had a skinny tie as well?
    4. if u dare, go a little hipster. sundress, vest, fedora.
    5. a casual day: loose fitting white tee, vest, ripped jean shorts, TOMS.

    go wild lady!

  24. Wow, Aubs! You've got inspiration galore. I have to try ALL of them.  No ripped jean shorts and TOMS so maybe minus the 5th one. :)

  25. Thanks, Jean. I thought of this idea a few weeks ago and finally decided to try it out. I am a bit bored on my styling, and want to try new things. This gives me tons of idea and both me and the readers can see what works and what doesn't - at least on me. lol.
PS. Don't you return your hot pants!

  26. Do you own a blouse or shell that has ruffles along the front? I wear a menswear styled vest with a long sleeve button up that has a ruffled placket, a wool mini, dark tights and mid-heeled oxfords. I never took a photo of the outfit but I loved wearing it. I also added a pin that has two sides with a chain attaching them, which reminds me of how men would wear a pocket watch across their vest pockets.

  27. Oh yah, this sounds awesome. I have a ruffle shell, no sleeve. I'll play with this combo. Thanks!

  28. I love this idea! I wanna play! I see this paired with a bow blouse, print if you have it. A mustard or burgundy color (solid or print) would be perfect. Pair it with dark denim - skinnies or flare legs will work! Lace up booties or heeled loafers, if you have them! Can't wait to see!
