OOTD: Color Blocking - Zara Colored Jeans

After seeing so many nice outfits with colored pants, I finally got myself a couple of pairs to play with. Best place to find them is Zara which was on their semi annual sale last week. I picked up this green pair that is a size 34 (EUR) or size 02 (USA) which I believe is their smallest size. It fits me nicely and is equivalent to their size XS pant size. I'd also equate the fit to a Loft size 00P.
When I put this outfit together I liked it a lot. I felt exuberant! But now I'm looking at pictures, I'm not sure if I'm a colored pants type girl. It doesn't look right on  me :( What do you think? Do you think I should stay away from colored pants? Honest opinions please. No sugar coating.

Club Monaco top (xs)
Banana Republic Factory Jacket (00P)

  2. I think the jeans looks fab on you but if you don't think youll get a lot of wear out of them I would return it.  I'm also swooning over that luscious bag of yours!

  3. I've always felt that colored pants are reserved for 20-somethings. However, I'm not -yet- 20 and I would never wear bright pants... it's just not my style. I think the pants look great on you, but they're very different from what you usually wear, and you shouldn't try to style something if you don't love it, regardless of how trendy it is.

  4. Honest opinion - I think you rock the colour blocking look. I love that you toned it down with the white but I feel like the white is still quite bright... Wondering how the green + khaki would look?

  5. I love it! You really do rock the colour blocking look, like Aubrey said! And I think I have the same pants, but in a diff colour! Right?? (here)

  6. I really love color blocking so this outfit really works for me!
However (and maybe this because all your pictures are in mid-step) the jeans seem to be bunching weirdly.

Definitely try out pairing your pieces with charcoals or khaki if you wanna tone it down. Black is not as summer appropriate imo.
    Rock it!!

  7. Thanks Jessy. They don't look like the same pants to me. Mine looks much shorter than yours. Yours look full length, and mine looks cropped.

  8. Thank you so much for your encouragement, Aubrey. I would definitely try khaki to see how it looks. :)

  9. Your pants are cuffed, aren't they? And I think you're taller than me.

  10. Hi, KL. Thank you so much for leaving your honest opinion. I really really appreciate it. :)  You are so young but already have very strict rules about what to wear in what age. You are right, it's very different from what I usually wear and that's why I'm exploring them and see how they would look on me.  I don't like to limit my style and I like to explore anything I find attractive. Colored pants for example is one of them. Reason I tried it was not because they are trendy, it was because I LOVE how they look on some other bloggers, where I get most of my inspirations. I encourage to do so as well. Put on a pair of colored pants and enjoy! :)

  11. Hi JennfromHI, I hear ya. I do the cost per wear calculation in my mind all the time. :)

  12. lol, Annie, I felt that the way I styled it was a bit too daring, although that's how I do things. I don't stay in my comfort zone a lot. Thank you.

  13. Thank you so much, Stacey, for noticing the bunching. I think that's exactly what made me think that this outfit is not so much of a success. The pants are very comfortable, but it doesn't look it in the pictures, does it? I will try not to tuck in next time and see what happens with the look. And definitely neutrals to tone it down a bit would prob. do the trick. :)

  14. The pants are pre-cuffed. I didn't cuff more. I don't think I'm taller than you. I'm only 5 feet.

  15. I can see why you have mixed feelings about these pants. They're so bold and daring. But, I love how you go out of your comfort zone to try new things. I think after this outfit, pairing the pants with all neutrals will seem quite tame :)

If I remember correctly, you bought a few pairs of colored pants, right? I'd probably return all but one since you're on the fence. You may find that colored pants aren't your thing after a few wears, or get tired of the trend.

  16. Vicky!!  You always look great in my opinion.  I think you can totally rock the colour jeans thing but my eye is just drawn to the bunching as well as someone else mentioned.  It might be just the cut of the jeans themselves - I'm sure they will look great with a longer top!

  17. I think these pants are fun!  It is nice every once in awhile to wear something a little bit out of your norm....as others said, you might try a more neutral colored top if you feel like it's too much.  I, on the other hand, would totally wear this and love it!   Your bag is fab by the way :)

  19. I definitely have been getting inspiration from other style bloggers, now that I've bulked up my GReader feed! It's interesting because my style is kind of caught right now between uber-casual and unusually conservative... I prefer Anthro to Urban Outfitters, for instance, even though Urban is supposed to be catering to my age group, and I'm fidgety in short skirts. So I admire other bloggers' outfits but I feel like I could never pull them off! (Kendi is a great example of gorgeous, impractical-for-me style.) Maybe it's time to analyze them more closely and be inspired to incorporate a toned-down version that WOULD fit in my personal aesthetic... hmm.

  20. Vicky - you have the color blocking down pat. I love the blue with the green! Since you asked for no sugar coating, I will admit my eyes were immediately drawn to the crotch bunching in the jeans. Why that happens I don't know, but I experience it myself a lot when trying on jeans and pants. It must be something with the fit in the hips and upper thigh. Other than that, I really like the color and length.

  21. Vicky! I actually adore the outfit to pieces, but several have mentioned the bunching which I agree with. I definitely agree with your thought earlier that wearing a tunic-length top or something not tucked in would help immensely. I'm picturing a coral top grazing the hips with bright blue skinny trousers and that white blazer. :D

  22. quick thoughts: bunch is most likely due to too high rise but super short zipper.  super weird, zara!!  also agree w/KL. prefer seeing colored jeans on young ppl, but i can see it this color blocking being more mature if bottom was a skirt & less formal blazer, but like that u kept it casual w/the cuffs (not sure if it came that way). let us know ur verdict.

  23. Don't stay away from the colored jeans; they really look great on you. Maybe you think they look a little odd because you've never tried them before and it's like your eyes need to adjust. As I was scrolling down your blog, I was instantly drawn to this outfit. You really wear them so well! I love the color-blocking, and the way you toned it down with a crisp white blazer.

  24. Just saw this post. I dont think you have any problems to pull off color blocks and u do look very young and fresh in this outfit. My two cents would be the fit of the pants and shoes. Coz I have the same pair of pants, I think u may need a smaller size, say size 32. Replacing white sandals with simple pumps may improve the proportion and make the whole outfit more crispy.

  25. I personally love the pants on you!! They look really fresh and your exuberance shines through in these photos. TO make it easier to wear, maybe throw on a neutral-colored looser fitting top? Otherwise, I'm digging it.
