How to wear a sweater dress - a staple in the closet

*** Update, I just found an Ikat cardi in xxsp today at Loft, so I picked it up. If you want it please visit my blog sale and claim it by leaving a comment.  SOLD***

*** More update, when I was getting ready to ship one of the dresses I picked up for Jean, I noticed that it was much heavier than the one I shipped to Annie. I couldn't understand why so I tried it on. It turns out that this one fits big. It fits more like an xsp dress. I let Jean know and canceled the shipment, because I knew that it wouldn't fit her. So now the dress is up for sale on my blog sale. SOLD***

Those of you who follow me on twitter probably saw the big "who wants this", "I want this", and "oh, I want this too" tweets a couple days ago, when I stopped by one of my local Loft and found several of this gorgeous sweater dress on clearance in xxsp. So I grabbed 3. One for me and two for my favorite bloggers (you know who you are.) I couldn't wait to do a post on it because it is so figure flattering that I think every girl should have one in their closet. The number of ways to style it is endless. I just want to do a few basics here and if you feel adventurous I know just the place to look. See how Callandra wears a pencil skirt under a sweater dress.

First the dress itself.

Love the sideview the best. Nice thing about sweater dresses is that they cling to your body and shows the right amount of curve.

The least thing you can do is to belt it.

In the cool weather, you can add layer to a sweater dress easily. One way is to add a basic jacket. Shown here, I'm wearing a Loft scuba jacket.

This look can be achieved easily by pulling cowl neck down both shoulders and tilting it to one side. I learned this trick from Jean. I love this look for the weekend.

You can also throw a cardigan over the sweater dress, and I prefer the belted look over the non-belted look. The trick here is to select a cardigan that either has a very unique pattern (here, shown I was wearing Ikat print cardigan from Loft.) or a very bright color to offset the grey color and add interest.

Not shown here is another fantastic way of wearing sweater dresses -- with high boots.

What do you think, readers? Do you like sweater dresses? Would you wear them in the winter?

Review: BR Factory spring jacket (00P)

I have picked up these two spring jackets before Presidents' Day from Banana Republic Factory during their suiting event. (Thanks to Sydney from Petite Little Girl for tipping me off.) The jackets originally cost $109.99 each and during the suiting event I was able to get them for just under $35 each. The white and beige colors are basics for spring and summer, and I don't have either. I wonder how I survived before. haha.

Material: 97% cotton, 3% Spandex, fully lined.
  shoulder to shoulder: 14 inches
  armpit to armpit: 15 inches
  waist : 14.5 inches
  arm length: 22.5 inches
total length: front - 24.5 inches, back - 23.5 inches.
Care: machine wash and dry low (that's a major plus for me)

I totally prefer sleeves scrunched up look. How about you?

Pros: Nice colors, great fit, sleeve length perfect, jacket length perfect, machine washable, can be worn with a pretty dress, or with jeans, and who doesn't need a jacket for spring? And the price is unbeatable!

Con: None. Simply love it.

Also want to show you guys a new find from Urban Outfitter - the Zodiac necklace. It's super cute, and it's on sale now for $10 each. (orig. $29)

Have a great weekend, everyone!

OOTD: Joining the Color Brigade Vol 7

I finally took some pictures last weekend for dear Kileen's color brigade entry this week. The colors I used are: Gray, Gold, and Red.

Oh, no I don't wear shoes at home. This would be wrong. The shoes were cleaned and used for pictures only. This was what I wore, really:
These babies are heavenly. They were handmade with real wool (top and bottom) by my aunt in China. I wore a pair to shreds once and begged my mom to request another pair from my aunt and I got them. I wouldn't wear anything else after that. :)

Outfit details:
J.Crew Golden Topaz Muse tank (last worn here)
Express Shawl Collar Sweater Jacket (last worn here)
Loft side-zipper legging
Belt (gift)
Earrings and necklace set (BJ's, ha, I used to buy cheap jewelry from BJ's, not any more, after I found cheaper and better place for that: Forever 21).

Lastly, Jasmine joining the color brigade. Kileen, aren't you proud of my little one?
Jasmine's outfit details:
long sleeve jersey (Justice)
skirt and cardigan (Abercrombie kids)
Belt (forever 21)
Necklace (gift from Grandma after her trip to Italy)

Nice thing about cleaning out my closet and having a blog sale ...

Is to find something that is super great and has been hanging in the closet for years without any attention. This is a silk blouse custom made in China eons ago and when Chinese money was not inflated like now yet. My sister had it made and sent to me via a friend and I just couldn't figure out how to wear it.  So naturally it was in the pile of clothes I was going to sell, until I tried it on for a blog sale picture. Then I fell in love.  Sorry guys, I'm keeping this one.  I have uploaded a lot more items today though, so do make sure to check it out. A lot more to come in the coming days. My bedroom is a big mess now.

Outfit details:
Custom made shirt, gifted.
BR factory skirt (00P)
Ann Taylor belt
Chinese Laundry pumps (if I had kept the AT pump at home, I would've chosen that one instead)

Presidents Day outlet find: Cole Haan Crossbody

Hello everyone! Feels like a long time since my last post. Life has been busy. My little girl turned 11 last Friday, so I decided to take her out on a mother/daughter shopping trip on Saturday. We hit the outlet. Beyond a BR price adjustment to the tweed dress I ordered (yes, I was able to knock another $6 off, yippee!) and an exchange of a defect necklace (clasp didn't open), I didn't find anything else worth mentioning here from BR.  When Jasmine and I left BR, I saw a handsome guy sitting outside of BR and did a double take. Was I glad I did that! It was Nick! Yes, Jean's Nick! Of course, I had to go back in to say hello! That was one of the many highlights of the day! Jasmine kept on saying "Jean is pretty" for the rest of the day. :) (Jean, the cobblestone lady day coat looks amazing on you!) I almost left the outlet mall completely unscathed, if only I didn't stop by Cole Haan. But was I glad I did! I found 2 awesome crossbody bags that are just perfect for my need and look amazingly cute. Cole Haan is having 20% off orders over $200 now. And these two bags were already on sale for at least 50% retail.

First off is the Camille Crossbody, IRNSTN CRC PRNT Capetown.

It can be worn as a shoulder bag.

Or it can be worn as a crossbody.

This bag is very cute in person and it also comes in purple.

Next is a more casual looking Marissa Crossbody Loden Hyde Park II.

Love the color, leather quality, and the size. One regret is that the strap is not adjustable.

Jasmine shared my excitement when we found these bags, and she told me that she likes both bags, but if asked to pick a favorite, it's the first one. I personally think they differ enough to be used in different occasions and planning on keeping both. What do you think?

P.S. Jasmine had scallion stir-fried lobster for dinner (her birthday request) and it was yummy!

OOTD: Emerald green shirt and plaid skirt

I purchased this shirt along with the new spring blazers I got last weekend because of its beautiful color (Emerald green) and perfect fit. I am wearing an xxsp and I love every parts of it. I styled it with a plaid skirt today but I can see this shirt being worn with a pair of bootcut jeans as well. Very pretty color, very nice cotton material with a bit of sheen. Best part, is that the shirt was only $10.25 on clearance.

 And meet my new photographer!

Outfit details:
BR factory dress shirt (xxsp)
Loft outlet plaid skirt (00p)
J.Crew belt (xs)
Pumps - gifted.
Swarovski snake necklace (LOVE it)

OOTD: Happy Valentine's Day

My photographer and tailor (aka, Dad)  is visiting my sister and won't be back until mid March. This means, fewer pictures, fewer posts, and in general unhappy Vicky.  But I have something to look forward to, haven't I?
Some good news. I managed to track down the Banana Republic Factory Store Tweed sheath dress that received sooo much love from the petite community recently at an incredible price. (See this dress here on Kelly,   here on Annie, and here on Jean. Thanks to Sydney who tweeted the sale and the additional 30% discount, I managed to call and located a 00P at a store in Indiana. BR Factory offers in store phone purchase and will ship to your house for a mere $5 fee. Incredible service. I started with my local outlet store in Wrentham, MA. They didn't have it. They looked it up in the computer and identified a couple of stores that might have it, in New York. I called both stores with no luck. The SA told me that the computer doesn't get updated that frequently so the computer and the real inventory might not agree.  I was about to give up. Then I thought of a random fact I read months ago about where petites live in the US (They are mostly on the coasts.) and decided to call a store in the middle of the country. I picked Kentucky and used BR's store finder to locate a store in Indiana.  To my amazement, I found the dress I wanted immediately. Husband is still laughing at my strategy.
How did you spend your Valentine's Day? I didn't do anything special. I did spend Sunday with my husband to get him suited up at Banana Republic Factory store. The store is having a suiting event right now and selective suits separates are $62.5 each, making a full suits only $125. These are very high quality 100% wool suits and if you have AAA card, you'll get an additional 10% off as well. I on the other hand bought myself two suit jackets for the spring, a white and a cream one. The fit of a 00P is very nice on me and you can't beat the final price on them -- $33.75 each, after AAA discount.

This is what I wore today:
