OOTD: Sunday Lounging and a special offer

Hi everyone. It seems like forever since my last post. :)  How are you all? I had a busy week at work. Because of my lack of sleep during the week, I pretty much had to catch up on it in the weekend.  Sure enough I have to admit (add guilty face here) I slept for a whole 10 hours last night, straight! I woke up feeling soooooo rested! I decided to put on my newly acquired BR cardigan (just arrived in the mail yesterday) from the 30% extra off sale that I took advantage of last weekend. and the Target boots I accidentally stumbled upon yesterday on super clearance in store. Perfect for lounging on a super relaxing Sunday!
Is it just me, or does the snowman look happier than me?

No peeking, buddy!

The boots are better looking in person than in the pictures.

I love the cardigan! It has a handmade vibe to it. I love the intricate pattern, and I love the casual feel, and the natural color. All in all, this cardigan is a big winner for me! I ordered an xsp, because I wanted it to be loosely fit. I am very glad about the fit and the length. It's perfect. :)
The Target boots are a super lucky find. It's still original price online for $49.99, but it was on clearance for $12.49 in store. The boots run a bit big. I usually wear a size 6 in most shoes, but I was able to fit in these 5.5 boots fine. It's super comfortable. (Yes I was wearing them all evening at home to test it out) and I couldn't wait to put them back on this morning. These will be my go-to boots for running errands that's for sure. The color is taupe, which is a very neutral color that works with almost everything. The calf fits me pretty well, so it might be just a tad too big for all you smaller petites.

This is my twitpic from the store. See how it works very well with jean leggings?

Outfit details:
J.Crew long sleeve vintage cotton ruffle shirt (xxsp, fits great, buy it here
Loft ponte leggings (xsp, similar here)
Target Mossimo Kachiri leather boots (sz 5.5, taupe, sold here, go to your local store for 75% off)

Petite Fashion Challenge #5 - brighten your work wardrobe

Thanks Cynthia from Shorty Stories for hosting the Petite Fashion Challenge #5. Be sure to visit her blog to see all the other participants' entries.

The challenge: Create a sophisticated work appropriate look that has no more than one dark piece (it can be a skirt, pants, a blazer, sweater etc) excluding shoes, accessories and hosiery.

My go to outfits usually involves a lot of blacks and grays. This is a wonderful opportunity to wear something different. I went with the color "cream". You guys know I just bought a cream coat, and love it. Tells you my feelings to this color. :) And it's perfect time to break out my new J.Crew bell skirt. I am a new fan of the olive green color this year. Bought tons of olive green. To make this outfit more fun, I added the Ann Taylor leopard skinny belt, and Forever 21 camera necklace.

Then I got more creative and added this beloved faux-fur wrap from Banana Republic a few years ago, and never got a chance to wear.  I wore it draped with a belt and then wore it with one end tucked into the built-in loop. I like both look, which one do you prefer?

Outfit details:
Loft turtle neck (old)
J.Crew wool bell skirt (buy it here)
Anthropologie tights
Ann Taylor Cara Bow pumps (buy it here)
The Limited ring
Ann Taylor leopard print belt
Banana Republic faux-fur wrap (old)
Forever 21 camera necklace. (very cute! love it!)

DEAL ALERT: Banana Republic online extra 30% off and in-store 50% off sales items

I want to do a quick post on this incredible deal from Banana Republic.  It's a store that I had mixed feelings about.  I stopped by BR yesterday when I went to the mall to return some mis-fitting Ann Taylor purchases. Also Jasmine wanted some sweatpants. (She said sweatpants are comfy.)  The 50% off sale sign allured me in and I got some pretty good loot for only $3.01. (with my $20 savings card)

Here's what I got:
1. Pom Pom Hat (orig. $39.50, purchased for $5)
This hat is on sale for $17.99 online and additional 30% off. But in store, it was $9.99 and addtional 50% off. So I score it for $5.

It runs very small, but it looks so cute on Jasmine that I bought it for her. I can barely fit my big head in it. lol. See how it looks on Jasmine here.

2. Danni Braid Bracelet (orig. $39.50, purchased for $5.50)
This bracelet is very pretty in person. I found two in store and compared the length. They were quite different. I took home the smaller one, and it fit me perfectly. See how it looks on my wrist here.
3. Sebastian Geo-print Silk Tie (orig. $59.50, purchased for $12.50)
This beautiful tie is 100% silk and I just LOVE the deep red color. Score! Hubby was really happy to see it!

That was my store purchase and only $3.01 was out of my pocket.

Just when I thought I was done with BR, I got an email from shopstyle alerting me that this BR sweater was gone on further sale.  Naturally, I clicked on the link. The Textured Belted Cardigan was on sale for $39.99 (orig. $130). With 30% off online order code: BRWINTER30 (expiring today) the sweater was a mere $28. Oh, did I forget to mention 6% ebates on top of that? Click here for an ebates referral.

I tried this sweater on in store a month ago when it was still full price. I tried an XS on. (There was no petite sizes in our local BR). Surprisingly the XS fit me ok. Of course it was a bit long, but the shape of the sweater was forgiving. I liked how it looked on me, and so did Jasmine. But I just couldn't justify spending that kind of money on a cardigan.  (By the way, the weaves are just completely heavenly.) Guess who else was wearing a similar cardigan by Lauren's Picks and looked completely adorable?
Anyways, so it was just wrong not to get it with this price, right? right? right? Oh, you have no idea how much I had to justify before pulling the trigger. I ordered a size xsp in the end.
In order to get free shipping, I had to add one extra item in the cart, so I did some browsing. Finally I settled on this mini-skirt: (orig. $79.5, purchased for $18)
I love the non-conventional purple color and the incredibly beautiful texture. I ordered an 00P and hope it fits.
There. Total price was $46 with free shipping. You have to get to $50 to enjoy free shipping, but apparently it was BEFORE the discount. Hurray!

The online offer expires today, and that's why I'm hurrying to get this post out. Jean from Extra Petite also wrote up a post on BR online purchase, see her selections here.

Review: J.Crew coats - Lady Day vs. Colletta

I have been "wanting" a white winter coat since the beginning of this season. I don't "need" another coat, but I don't "have" a white one, so I somehow justified getting these two gorgeous coats from J.Crew, both 0P, both in the color sea salt, when J.Crew was running an amazing 40% off sale.  I meant to keep just one, and I was very sure that Lady Day would win and Colletta would go back to the store after seeing this comparison review from Jean... until I put them both on.  Jean did a very comprehensive video review on the double cloth lady day coat in 0P in dark cypress a month ago, so I am not going to repeat here.  However I think you will find these measurements useful:

Here is how they look on me side by side:
The front buttoned up view: Lady Day - clean cut look, classic, hmm, boring? Colletta - standing collar, shirred waistband, more fun?

The front opened view: Very competitive coats. But I still prefer the Colletta. I love the vertical stripes where the buttons are. Oh, and how I love the tabs at the cuffs!

Back View: Both look a little frumpy. Still, Colletta wins!

The winner is: Colletta!

The close 2nd place winner is: Lady Day!

Ladies, which one do you like better? I'm going to keep the Colletta. If anyone is interested in the Lady Day coat in sea salt with thinsulate (sz 0P), which is currently sold out on JCrew, please let me know ASAP. Otherwise I will return it to the store next weekend. Gone.

Oh, like the scarves I was wearing? They are by Chan Luu from Ruelala's final sale again. They are both gorgeous in person. Need a personal invitation to Ruelala? Click here.

Review: H&M lace skirt and Theory Barina Jacket

I was snowed in today, again. About 7 inches of new snow, on top of the 8 we had on Tuesday. What's up with the weather? Good thing about it was I was able to take plenty of pictures for my blog! I have bought two J.Crew coats in sea salt and they both came yesterday. I'm keeping one! Review coming up this weekend. Stay tuned.

This is a size 4 H&M lace skirt. Fits me perfectly. It measures 12.5 inches across. I have already whined about the inconsistency of the sizing, so I'm not going to repeat here. As you can see, the waist fits me very well, especially with two layers of tops tucked in. The length is just above knee, and it's perfect. I really like the make and the fit of this skirt. And the lace is to die for. See it on other petites in Alteration Needed forum.

Did you notice my new pumps? I love pumps, but they don't love me. I can't walk in literally every single pair of them that I put my feet in. This pair is an exception. I tried it on in Ann Taylor store during their 40% everything sale last week, and immediately fell in love. Nice thing was, I was able to walk around in the store, no problem.  Most of you know the quality of the Ann Taylor pumps. Leather upper, and leather sole. Super soft and comfy. These Cara Bow Pumps are accented with tonal leather detail which I find very pretty and unique.  (Orig. $178, purchase price. $60, not bad)

Next up, is the Theory Barina Jacket. I spotted this jacket in Ruelala's final sale last week, and tweeted about it. It was selling for $69.90 and the original price was $395.  (If you aren't a member of Ruelala yet, and need an invite, here is my personal invite link.)  I don't know if you guys have bought this jacket due to my tweet, but if you did, congratulations! I absolutely adore this jacket. The size 00 fits very tiny. What I love about this jacket is the non-traditional double breasted buttons that aren't aligned. The design made it so that if you button it all up, the front doesn't lay flat. It creates a rippled pattern, which I think is so unique.  What I also love about this jacket is how slim the sleeves fit, and the length is perfect because of bracelet sleeves. I can totally see myself wearing it over a T-shirt and a pair of skinny jeans. Since the picture was taken the same day, I just put it over the above outfit and it worked perfectly as well.

If you need more info about this jacket, let me know, and I will provide the item #.
Button only one button
Back view
I love it buttoned
See how the buttons are slanted, not perfectly horizontal?

Hope everyone have a great weekend, and stay warm!!!

OOTD: Playing with patterns & Meet up with Jean

My dad who used to be my regular photographer went to visit my sister for a month or two, so I'm left with no daily photographer.  I used to have my OOTD taken in the morning before work, now I can only sigh. I need a set up with timer, but I haven't found a spot inside the house that can take decent pictures, and outside is hazardous. So today I had to take the pictures AFTER work, which I knew wasn't a good idea, because you could tell that my eyes could hardly stay open, so I mostly cropped out my head for your visual enjoyment.
I actually like my outfit today very much. I wore two different houndstooth patterns together and made it work. The reason they worked together was because the pattern on the tights are very subtle.
Just walked into the door after work.

Forever 21 Ring, Gap Belt,

Close up on the patterns
We are in the middle of the winter now, and the weather can be very brutal.  I like wearing skirts, so I wear a lot of OTK boots. In this case, I layer my tights. I was wearing two layers of tights, with the inside one being footless and black. It does help fending off the cold air.

Outfit details:
Merino wool V-neck sweater from Ann Taylor outlet (xxsp)
Wool skirt from Loft outlet (00P)
Patterned tights from Anthropologie
Michael Kors booties (sz 6)
Gap belt
Forever 21 Ring (sz 6)

On a separate note, I finally decided to upsize the H&M lace skirt from a size 2 to a size 4 this weekend.  The waist of  a size 2 skirt I got was 12" laying flat, and the size 4 one I got was 12 1/2" laying flat. The perfect fit for me would probably be a 12 1/4".  Annie from Really Petite tweeted that hers is 11 3/4" and Kileen from Cute and Little tweeted that hers is 12 1/8". You can see the size inconsistency here. So lesson learned? Try everything on, you never know what you are going to get. :) (Update: Just got a tweet from Elle. Hers is 12 1/4". Would've been perfect for me. )

On my trip to Boston last Sunday to upsize the skirt, I had an opportunity to meet up with Jean from Extra Petite. We've been talking about meeting up for a while and finally I had an excuse to go into Boston so we had Dim Sum together.  This is the first time I saw Jean in person, and first time to meet up with a blogger. The experience was simply exciting.  I also asked Bryan (the husband) to come along, and he agreed without hesitation. "Sure," he said, "what should I wear?" That's the funniest thing, because he's never asked this question before. I guess meeting with a fashion blogger gave him this "pressure". "Whatever," I answered. "Just what your wear normally." He thought for a few second, and let out the biggest grin, "I should just wear a striped sweater over a plaid shirt!"
When we met at Hei La Moon, it was as if we had known each other for a long time.  I didn't feel the need to break the ice or anything. Everything was so natural.  She looked even more pretty than the pictures and videos. She's got perfect skin. When I was her age, I was covered with zits. We started talking, and talking non-stop until we had to leave.  She was so easy to talk to, even though we had very little in common. She's in finance, I'm an engineer. She's in her early 20s, and I'm old enough to be her mother. She's single (Update: but unavailable), I'm married with 2 kids. BUT, there is something we have in common, we are both petite, and we both love chicken feet! Yay! If you see the pictures of us together, you can tell that I'm bigger than she is, but guess what she said when she saw me first? "You are SO tiny!"

We'll have another nasty storm upon us tomorrow. Talking about snow, I want to share a cute picture of Jasmine in the tunnel she dug out and Tristan digging a trench last Tuesday during the snow storm that left us with 18 inches of accumulation.

Hope everyone have a great week!
