Theory Leather Jacket

First of all, let me apologize for being so inactive in reading and commenting your blogs.  I barely had time to post. I miss talking to you guys too.  I promise I'll try to keep up with the reading. :)
So many people expressed interest in the Theory leather jacket I scored in the black Friday sale from Theory outlet that I felt obligated to do a quick post on it.  For those who are interested in looking for it, the name of the jacket is "COLEY", it's super soft lamb leather and 100% wool knit. Color is black and the style no is A0600115. Original price was $745, and I snatched it for $149. Oh I'm so happy! Needless to say, I LOVE it. I have been looking for a black leather jacket for years and finally it found me in the most unexpected way. What do you guys think?

Thanksgiving outfits and Black Friday steals

Hello everyone. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and a wonderful black Friday Shopping experience. I thought with a whole week of free time in my hand I'd post more frequently but instead I was caught up in shopping, eating, partying, and sleeping, and didn't get much time to think about posing for pictures. I did get a few shots of my casual stay-at-home outfits I'd like to share with you guys. Nothing really special, but comfy and nice. As for Black Friday midnight madness, I finally chickened out of the midnight part, and joined the madness on Friday at around noon. I did manage to score a few nice things I'd like to share in the next few posts, including this hot pink cashmere sweater from Ann Taylor Factory store for $36. But my all time favorite is the black leather jacket from Theory, marked down from $750 to $150.  I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw one size P on the rack. Pictures coming soon.

What was your favorite score? Do tell.

OOTD: Loft ruffled shell and H&M jacket

I don't know about you, but I'm all geared up for Thanksgiving. My husband baked 6 loaves of pumpkin bread yesterday as an official kick start of the holiday. I'm yet to pick up a fresh Turkey from the super market today for tomorrow's big feast. And oh, the shopping...there are so many good deals! I will do a separate post just for the black Friday and keep it updated throughout the week. Do check back.
Today's OOTD is a Loft top I purchased on super clearance during the amazing stackable sale era. I love the think semi transparent material and its elegant tie-front. It works well with a skirt like how Michelle wore it here, or under a cardigan. The jean legging is an old pair from Loft. It was too big when I got it, now after several times in the dryer, it finally fit well throughout, but it's a tad short now. Sigh.
I have always wanted a black short thin jacket and finally found the perfect one from H&M last weekend. It was  priced at $34.95, and with the iphone h&m app shaking deal, I got 20% off. So this cute little jacket was only $28. It comes in grey and red as well. So for those of you who missed out on Jean's red jacket last time, this one is a great substitute. The red is super cute in person. It was a hard choice for me between black and red. The only reason why I chose black was because I was wearing my red coat when I did my shopping, and the color was just too close to justify buying another one.
The Christmas tree was set up last Sunday because the kids could wait any longer. :)

Seven Confessions

I got tagged by lovely Michelle from Mini Maestra. So here is the list, in no particular order.

  1. I love dark chocolate. Preferably 75% dark. I don't care much for milk chocolate, which most people consider it weird. On of my favorite chocolate is Dove Dark Chocolate Promises with nuts.
  2. I am a semi-coffee addict. I can't start the day without a home brewed Starbucks dark roast coffee freshly ground with Hazelnut flavored creamer without sugar. I said semi because I don't need a refill for the rest of the day. I drink tea instead.
  3. I am an extremely private person. Sharing anything personal is very difficult for me. (Yes, Michelle, I said difficult, not hard. :)) So writing these confessions aren't easy. They are like pulling teeth. I feel like I am running things to say, and I'm only on #3.
  4. TV shows I love: Smallville (up to season 7. When Lana and Lex are out, I'm out.) Coupling. (Completely hilarious, great show from Britain). Big Bang Theory.(One of the few things that say I'm a geek.) Seinfeld, Friends, Two and a half men (before Charlie Sheen started to have drug and violence problems), Chuck. I seldom watch TV, I get these shows from Netflix.
  5. I grew up in the city of Beijing, China, before I went to Oregon for college and graduate school. I think the reason I prefer living in the suburb now is because I grew up in a big city and is now all citied out. I like my peace and quiet, and clean air. That said, I do miss the walking, coffee shop, stores, restaurant, museums, once in a while. For that I go into Boston, or New York.
  6. I am allergic to "the sun". It's a rare allergy condition that I developed about 5 years ago after I moved from California to Massachusetts. I was tested negative for Lupus, so Dr. said I was simply allergic to the sun. It's apparently seasonal as well, because I could be in the sun from September to April with no issues whatsoever, but come May, all bets are off. That's why you don't see me tan, because I can't.
  7. Yay, I'm almost done! It's not all that bad. I wanted to do an outfit post with the confession but this post has been taking me too long, so I'll just do an OOTD tomorrow. Ok this last one is going to blow your mind. Ready? I'm a rightie, but I can write with my left hand completely symmetrical to my right hand. I can write a few words on a paper that you can only comprehend if you flip the paper and hold it against the light. Yes, it's completely opposite from what my right hand would write. And I don't have to think about it. Weird, eh?
I hope you enjoyed this post as much as my outfit posts, and don't forget, black Friday madness is coming up. There are some AMAZING deals. I am still debating if I should join the craziness. Just by browsing the outlet deals was enough to get me excited about going. I'll post some details tomorrow. It's getting way too late. Have a great night.

JCrew Arrow Sweater-Jacket

Hi everyone. Hope you had a good weekend. Mine was busy. Mother-in-law came to town. Kids were super excited about seeing Grandma. They got over-zealous and put up the Christmas tree including all the ornaments and the garlands in the house. So our holiday season officially started. Maybe I should start taking pictures in front of the Christmas trees now.
Today's outfit consists two of my favorite items. The JCrew Arrow Sweater-jacket in size xs and the famous GAP legging jeans in faded dark wash. I spotted the jacket in JCrew online and fell in love with the color. I ordered an XS (no petite sizes) and hoped that it fit. I couldn't be more happy about the fit. I really like the length. It feels like it was made for us petites. The structured silhouette is so flattering and I'm just so in love with the shawl collar. The sweater was spun from premium merino wool in a lofty 7-gauge knit. Yes the quality of this 100% wool sweater is top notch. Beware, it is very thick and warm. In the fall this can be worn as a jacket, and in the winter, it can be worn over long sleeve T's as sweaters. It's definitely my favorite sweater now.

Love the length of the sweater.

I'm trying to show how cute the shawl collar looks from the back.

Unbuttoned look. I like it too.

The shoes are actually pretty cute and very comfortable. And the legging jeans are to die for.  Sorry about the "dirty" pictures. The indoor picture taking is still having problems. Hope you enjoy this post and I will "talk" to you soon, via comments and twitter. :)

Guest appearance: for the sake of lack of pictures

Have you been in a "blah" state for an extended period of time? Well, I have. And I can tell you that it's not so fun to be "blah". I haven't been trying to put together an outfit for a while, and even if I did put something together, I felt too blah to take a picture of it. So, guess what, I'm running out of pictures to post, and I'm running out of ideas.  So here's when kids come in handy. I work so hard to get them fed and dressed, who says I can't use them as blog fillers? So here they are:

Ignore the boy, ok. He ran into the frame last minute giving the photographer no time to react.
I want to say a few words about the Abercrombie cardigan that Jasmine is wearing. It's pretty, comfy, soft, and the rosette and bow embellishments came out of the wash in tact. I think it's better made than some of the adult clothings in other stores. I am very impressed about the quality. She's wearing a size M.  So my beautiful petite ladies, this is a pretty good cardigan for the price. If you go to the A&F store, a similar cardigan would cost at least 60% more.

Review: Aldo shoes

Last weekend I went to Aldo store to check out these two pairs on sale that I spotted on line:
They both look so cute online, but I still wanted to see them in person so I called the store up to verify that they had them in stock. I tried both of them on in size 6, my normal shoe size. Aldo shoes can run small sometimes, so having to size up is not surprising.
SHARLIN was surprisingly unflattering. My feet were swimming in size 6 shoes. Ankle size was too big, and I just didn't like the look at all.  The shoes come in 3 colors, I didn't even bother to try the black and the red.
ALBY looked like it was going to work. It fit well, and the heel height was just right. But these shoes look totally different when real feet are in them. The cuteness was gone, and it just looked weird. Sorry I didn't take any pictures but it was a no-go for me.
When I almost wanted to leave with disappointment, I spotted the CLARY in black.

They were so simple yet elegant. I immediately asked the SA to get a pair of size 6 for me.  Here's the verdict:
  1. They are truly good looking shoes. The style is very simple, but it's also very pretty at the same time.
  2. The material is real suede, not synthetic.
  3. It was on sale for $41.99.  Orig. $90. In fact online these shoes are still $90.
  4. They are very comfortable overall, except for one thing that can be fixed and explained in the #2 of the cons list.
  1. These shoes don't have much tractions under them. They are extremely slippery. I found that to be true for a lot of Aldo shoes, and found the solutions to this problem to be very simple. There are these non-skid pads for sale that work like magic. You just stick one underneath the shoes, and problem solved.
  2. The outer sides of the shoes hit the ankle bones right on, making them very uncomfortable. I used shoe pads usually made for the inside front of the shoes and stuck them to the back, raising my ankle bones by just a tad bit, missing the edges of the shoes. If it still doesn't work, a band aid would also work. Hehe. :)

Another neutral point is that the black doesn't look true black in natural sunlight. It has a dark purple tint. You can probably see it in the pictures below. Under florescent light, they look black.
The Taupe color is also very lovely, except it's currently still selling for full price.

And here is how they look on me:

Plaid flannel shirt and knee high boots

Hi everyone. Just had a very long day. I took a day off to stay at home with my two kids who have no school today. I have invited 5 kids over for a play date. The day was beautiful. They had lots of fun running around outside. Feeling unproductive just being there, I also started my laundry and finished 5 loads by the end of the day. Feels like a head start of the weekend.
I meant to post this outfit last week but was too busy to take pictures, so here it is today. I love love the color of this shirt. And it is so so comfortable. It's casual yet with great style. I like to wear it with my jean leggings, but any skinny jeans would work. I don't know why but this shirt calls for boots to go with it. At least that's just how I feel, so there it is, with boots.
I bought this shirt from Abercrombie, in size XL. This shirt is on clearance now in store and online. In store price is $9.99 and online it's $14.93.

Outfit details:
Flannel Shirt: Abercrombie (kids) (sz XL) (buy it here)
Jeggings: Loft (last season) (This season's jeggings don't fit me well.)
boots: Jessica Simpson (sz 6)
snake necklace: Swarovski

Review: Loft military ruffle jacket and Melton Coat

I'm so glad that I'm taking pictures of all my new major purchases before I decide to keep it or not. This activity has literally saved me tons of money for NOT keeping the items that look horrific on me but somehow made me think they didn't. This weekend, it happened again. I bought this Loft military jacket in 00P during the 30% off promotion for the new item roll out, and it was sitting in the bag until I pulled it out this morning for blog pictures. I bought it so early and didn't wait for further sales because I thought it was REALLY cute and I thought it fit me SO WELL, and I couldn't afford to wait because the small size would be all gone. Now that I saw the pictures, I didn't even hesitate to take it back immediately, barring my husband's fake sad face with the "BUT I REALLY LIKE IT" plea.

Alright the front view looks like I'm waring a hoola hoop. It looks ridiculous. And is it me or does it look too short on me? The back view doesn't look that bad. I really like the collar. The mid section saucer doesn't look too exaggerated as the front view, but I hate the way my bums stick out.
Pros: The buttons are military style and are really cute. The wool is thick and warm, and it doesn't irritate my skin which is a huge plus.
Cons: Well, it's pricey (regular price @ $128) and look at the pictures, need I say more?!
However, if the price goes down, I might try on the next size up and it might be just a bit longer.
This sweater looks cuter on smaller framed petites like PAG or MiniMaestra.

Next, the Melton Coat in 00P. I got this coat when they had the $75 one day sale last week, and I LOVE it. The 00P fits me really well and it looks great buttoned or unbuttoned. The color is a subdued pinkish purple, and Loft calls it eggplant. The only problem I have so far is that the last bottom has fallen off once already which was remedied easily by sewing it back on. When I bought the coat it lost one button already. (Not surprised now that I know how easily that can be yanked off). Don't worry, I got a discount for not owning all the buttons on the coat, and it came with spares. After looking carefully I realized that there are two reasons why the buttons come off just like that. 1. The metal hoop on the bottom of the button was not smooth, it had a bit of sharp edges, so threads don't get a chance when force is used. 2. The bottom button hole does not have stitching around it so buttons go in and out easily. I realized that they did that on purpose so that when you don't use the bottom button, the button hole is nicely hidden. Sort of a designed as a feature, but unfortunately turned out to be a bug type thing.

Finally get a chance to show off my lovely Kenneth Cole earrings.
Petite Little Girl had a guest blogger today who happened to have also blogged about this coat. I'm glad this coat is getting the attention it deserves.

boots: Aldo (last season)
Jeans: Loft (last season)
scarf: GAP (in store now)

OOTD: work outfit and LLBean coat

Before I do an OOTD post, I'd like to mention some major sales this weekend. GAP is offering 40% off all regular priced items in store only AGAIN (45% off for GAP card holders). See this post for my haul last time they made this offer. I have updated the Sales a Coupons page today with some other sales including Loft and Nine West. Just click on "Sales and Coupons" link on the top of the page.

We had a few consecutive rainy and dreary days in New England, so all the pictures were taken inside the house. I haven't figured out a good recipe for a good indoor picture yet, so bear with me while I continue my experiment for the next 6 months to come. I really love this necklace I bought during Loft's additional 30% off sale items sale. I paid $7 for it. I just love how cute it looks with this green shell that I also happen to love to death.

Outfit details:
Shell: Loft
Long cardigan: Loft
Skirt: Loft (a few seasons ago)
pump: Target
Necklace: Loft
Earrings: J.Jill

Now on to the coat. I got this coat as a present a year ago from my dear sister and never wore it. I love the rich red color of the coat, and I love the quality of the wool (it's 100% lambs wool). It's thick and supple. It feels so soft to the touch. The only thing I don't quite like about this coat is the fit. My sister got it from LLBean and the smallest petite size they offer is 4P. What are they thinking??? The fit of this coat feels like a 2P from Loft to me, but it is still too big for my small frame. BUT, it's warm, and its color is so pretty. I checked online and noticed the LLBean is still selling this coat. If you are a size 2P from Loft, I would completely recommend this coat to you without reservation.

Have a Great Weekend Everyone!!!
