Fall Look: Flannel Plaid and Leather

* I have gained 5 pounds in the last 2 years and grew out of some of my borderline too tight pants, including the size 0 Old Navy Rockstar legging jeans in Russet Brown. I am giving it away to my petite blogger friends and readers.  It fits a 23.5-24 inch waist. See it on me 2 years ago here.  See it on Jean here.  US only.  I'm charging $10 for shipping and handling, including paypal fee.  If you are interested please put it in the comment. Thank you. *

The temperature has taken a dramatic turn to the south recently.  It looks and smells like fall outside now, even though it's more than a week from the first day of fall.  If you don't live in a hole, you'd probably notice one of this fall's biggest trend - plaid. It's everywhere and hard to miss. I've always been a big fan of soft cotton shirts and love the fact that this particular one I found at H&M during the big store opening a week ago was in the color combo I absolutely adore - red and blue. To style, simply add leather.

Silk Chartreuse and Blue Tweed

Happy Saturday everyone! Long time no see! Going to my last post, I just realized that I have left my blog unattended for almost 2 months. Time to pick it up again. I have been busy in the last two months, both for work and for home. What did I do?
  • I took the family on an Alaskan cruise on board Radiance of the Sea by Royal Caribbean. It was a 70 year birthday gift to my mother-in-law from her 3 children. We all had a lot of fun. Kids got to spend a lot of time with their cousins who they don't get to see very often.
  • My sister and her younger son came and visit us in August. We spent a week together doing some local activities. I visited the USS Constitution in Boston for the first time thanks to her. I enjoyed the museum a lot and would recommend it to anyone visiting Boston.  There are a lot of hands on activities in the museum so that kids don't get bored.
  • I had a breakthrough on my sun allergy problem. 11 years ago I moved from the sunny California to Massachusetts.  About 3 years after I moved here, I developed a weird symptom. I breakout in the early spring, April time frame, and the rashes on my torsos are extremely itchy and hideous. I went to see allergy doctors and dermatologists and the diagnosis was that I was allergic to the Sun. Is there a cure? No. The prescription is to put sunblock on where ever I go and stay away from the sun as much as I do. Even with sunscreen on, I still break out, so I decided to stay indoor as much as I could. I even wore long sleeves driving to and from work because the sun that comes into the car windows would cause a breakout. Imagine not being able to get out in the sun! It wasn't easy, but I dealt with it. Two months ago I went to get a regular check up. My regular doctor was busy so I met with a very young nurse practitioner who just graduated a couple of years ago. She took the time to talk to me about every aspect of my life. After she learned about my sun allergy, she ordered a blood test on my Vitamin D level. I got a report back a couple days later telling me that my Vitamin D level is low (no surprise, since I couldn't get any sun) and I should take high dosage of prescription VD. Just for reference, Sufficiency is 30-100ng/mL, Insufficiency is 10-29 ng/mL, Deficiency is <10ng/mL. Mine was 6 ng/mL. I didn't take it lightly and started the high dose Vitamin D treatment immediately. I have noticed just a couple of weeks later that my sun allergy got significantly less severe. I was hopeful. Two months later, today, I finally got to a point where I could drive without covering my arms. I even went for a run in the sun with tees and shorts with my daughter yesterday with no severe consequences. You can imagine how happy I am! Another good "side effect" of taking Vitamin D was that my nails don't break any more. My overall health condition seems to be better. Lack of VD prevents calcium absorption and that is no wonder I had knee problems and nail issues. Come to think of the whole thing, the vicious cycle started 11 years ago when I moved from a sunny state to a very cold state. Winter here is long and we cover ourselves with thick layers majority of the months. The change triggered the first onset of lack of Vitamin D after 3 years of this lifestyle - Sun allergy. Because of the allergy, I covered myself even more, now in the summer as well. That action caused even more severe deficiency of Vitamin D, therefore more severe allergy. I am glad I'm on my way to a positive cycle now, hoping to get back to normal in a few more months.
  • My old mini-van (a Honda Odyssey) served us 13 years and started to have all sorts of problems. So we got a new car. This time a fully loaded Infiniti QX60. From starting our car search to taking one home took us only 3 weeks. I've been pretty happy about my new car, but it seems to give my parents motion sickness every time they were in there. I blame it on the "new car smell" which eventually will go away.
  • Jasmine is a freshman in high school now, and I'm still trying to get used to it. Where did my baby girl go?  She is as sweet as ever though, and I hope she keeps it up.
  • On work side, there has been a lot of good news on the product I worked on for 3 years. Finally the endless working nights and weekends paid off.  Grantley EP platform launched. Here's a good article describing what it is.  Longer webcast version here. (Meet Diane Bryant, Intel's Senior Vice President and General Manager of Data Center Group wearing the latest trend - a strategically placed colorblocking dress that makes you look 10 pounds less. Husband's comment: She looks like she has a Star Trek uniform on. Haha.)  The High End Desktop (HEDT) version (Haswell-E) of our design broke world record on benchmarks. Can't say I don't feel proud.
So much for babbling about myself. Time for the outfit post today.  I put this outfit together with "fall" in my mind. :)
All pieces are old except that I got the Rebecca Minkoff Quilted love crossbody bag in petrol recently. The bag comes in various different colors.  Bloomies has more colors here and also in black hardware too.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Access has started a week ago for cardholders only. Finally for those who don't have a Nordstrom card, the wait will be over in hours. Starting July 18th the sale will be open to the public both online and in store.

Every year I did my due diligence to browse the sale since I knew about the sale only a couple years ago. Every year I had some good scores. I still love love love my Blondo boots after two years of continuous wearing in the winter. It fit my calf perfectly due to its elastic nature and it's water proof. This year's version has some modifications. It's half leather and half elastic material. I haven't personally tried it on but I expect the same performance from this brand. Another big score from the sale was my favorite Michael Kors watch. The oversized look wasn't for everyone, and I was apprehensive when I tried it on, but since my purchase I have been wearing it non-stop. If you are looking for an oversized watch, I highly recommend this brand. This year the anniversary sale has put just about every color metal available out there from the brand on sale here. I'm sure you'll be able to find one you love. I recommend that you do try it on in store for sizes. When I am not feeling for big chunky watch and want to go with a light feminine version, this Skagen version (which I also scored in the anniversary sale) was my go to watch. In fact wearing that watch and a David Yurman cable bracelet together is now a favorite combo of mine. This year Nordstrom has put a lot of Skagens on Anniversary sale again. Besides the fact that I love how sleek looking the designs are I also love the price point. Make sure that you check them out.

Sale Alert: Hunter Fleece Welly Socks 30% Off

I don't see Hunter Welly Fleece sock on sale very often and $30 price tag for a pair of fleece socks seem to be a bit on the high side. So up to now I have been wearing my hunter boots without any lining. Even though the boots served as water resistant barrier, it wasn't very cold weather friendly.  My feet got cold after a few hours outside. So when I saw these socks on sale last week, I didn't hesitate and ordered a pair. My only hesitation was the color. There are six color options and I was debating between the charcoal and violet for a while before I settled with a boring but more versatile color - Charcoal.  I have to say that the socks made the boots very fitted.  I can even appreciate the warmth it will bring in the fall and winter months, even though the temperature outside now is unpleasantly warm.
If you own hunter boots and are in need of the liner socks, this is a good opportunity to order a pair ... or two. I ordered the standard sized ones in size medium. It fits the original tall boots and these wedges very well. The short fleece socks are also on sale for 30% off.  There are also leopard cuff ones and stripe cuffed knit ones also on sale.

Cheers!

Loft 50% Everything Sale Ending Tonight and Kate Spade 25% Extra Off

Great news! The sold out Tory Burch Medium Fleming Shoulder Bag in Light Oak, seen on me here, is now being carried by Nordstrom here.

Just a quick post here before the 50% off sale at Loft ends tonight. Use code FIFTY.
Also Kate Spade is running a 25% extra sale right now on a bunch of sale items. Code MORESALE. I got the Catherine Street Mini Pippa for around $150 with this sale and love how many outfits I can create with it.
I recently bought a few items that I really loved so I want to share them here with you.

This Crochet Trim Short with 3 1/2 inch inseam one of my favorite pieces from Loft. I love the Linen texture and the color is amazingly versatile. It's a neutral that you really can pair with almost everything. The details of this shorts are amazing. The crochet trim is so delicately placed and the side stitching adds interest to it. I am wearing a size 00P here and I love how it fits me. The shorts do run a tad big on the waist, so do size down if need be.
Did you notice the big bow under the bag in the picture below? I just love this detail.
The bag can hold a lot of things even though its size is small. The leather doesn't look like it will stand scratching and I do feel that color from the clothes can transfer on it easily, so I have to be careful to wear light colored clothes when using this bag.
When I put the outfit together I realized that the color blocking matches the shoes perfectly.
Kate Spade Catherine Street Mini Pippa (buy here, or from Nordstrom, Saks)
Sam Edelman 'Ollie' T-strap pump (sold out at Nordstrom, similar for only $38.5, the real thing)
J.Crew Factory lace tee (similar here)
Ann Taylor necklace (equally cute option by Ann Taylor

Love the shape of this bag so much. It reminds me of the beautiful Givenchy Antigona which has a current retail of $2280.
Do take note that the sale is a final sale. No returns and exchanges will be accepted.
